General Motors is now hiring workers for its Bowling Green, Ky., plant to assemble high-performance engines used in some of Chevrolet’s most-exotic vehicles: the 2014 Camaro Z/28 and the 2015 Corvette Z06.

It’s part of a move the automaker announced last year to relocate its Performance Build Center, which makes the hand-crafted engines, to the Bowling Green Corvette factory from Wixom, Mich.

Most of the up to 30 employees for the Bowling Green engine facility will be hired locally, said plant spokeswoman Andrea Hales.

Already, 13 new workers have been hired, and GM has transferred one salaried and two hourly employees from Michigan who had past experience in the engine-production center, she said.

“These are new hires, whereas we transferred-in almost 400 employees last year for the new (Corvette) C7, who were current GM hourly employees,” she said.
