Mechanical Changes:

  • 1968 CorvetteAutomatic transmission changed from 2-speed powerglide to 3-speed Turbo Hydra-matic
  • Hidden headlights vacuum-operated rather than electrically operated
  • Battery moved to a compartment under the seats
  • Electric rear window defroster standard
  • Speed warning indicator standard
  • 4-wheel disc brakes standard
  • Fiber-optic light monitoring system

Exterior Changes:

  • Longer, lower, pointed nose
  • Four open "gills" behind front wheels
  • Coupes included removable roof panels and rear window
  • Side vent windows eliminated
  • Fastback replaced with tunneled roof on coupes
  • Convertible's optional hardtop included a glass rear window
  • Conventional door handles replaced with push-button style handles
  • New colors:  LeMans Blue, International Blue, Polar White, British Green, Safari Yellow, Silverstone Silver, Cordovan Maroon, Corvette Bronze

Interior Changes:

  • Engine gauges in center of dash rather than clustered around steering column.
  • New "Astro-Ventilation" system
  • Transmission tunnel enlarged to accept the new Turbo-hydramatic transmission
