1965 Corvette Production and Performance
| Model Year Highlights |
Exterior:
- Horizontal grill bars were changed to black.
- The hood vent depressions were removed.
- New vertical exhaust louvers in the front fenders were functional.
- The horizontal grill bars were now painted black but the outer grill trim remained the same as the 1963-1964 model years, making this front grill unique to the 1965 model year.
- New knock-off wheels became available which were painted a dark gray color in between the fins.
Interior:
- Instrument gauges were restyled with flat black faces and seats were redesigned with slightly larger and more supportive cushioning. Inner door panels were redesigned with integrated arm rests.
- The area around the radio and speaker bezel was painted instead of vinyl-covered.
Mechanical:
- This was the first and only year that the 396 ci "Turbo Jet" engine would be offered.
- This was the first year for a power antenna to be offered on the Corvette. It was standard equipment.
- Four wheel disc brakes became standard equipment using 4 piston brake calipers. Drum brakes could still be an option for a $65.50 credit.
- A special-order M22 Muncie "Rock Crusher" transmission was an available option.
- 1965 was the last year for fuel injection on the Corvette until its reappearance on the 1982, L83 cross-fire fuel injection engine.
