Condition

Some customers may comment on a whine or growl noise that seems to spin down on deceleration with the transmission in gear and clutch pedal depressed.

Cause

The transmission oil cooler pump has been increased in size to provide increased transmission oil cooling.

Correction

None. This is considered an operating characteristic of the transmission oil cooler pump. This is not considered a durability issue and no premature wear should be expected.

To aid in diagnostics and to ensure that this condition is properly diagnosed and to prevent a vehicle with an actual concern from being misdiagnosed please read this document completely.

This condition will ONLY be present in ambient temperatures below 40*F/4*C when the vehicle is parked outside. The concern will go away when the fluid temperature starts to warm up. The easiest way to attempt to duplicate this concern is to accelerate to 30-35 mph in third or fourth gear, push the clutch in and downshift to second gear. Hold the clutch pedal on the floor and coast down to a stop. You may notice a whine or growl noise that slows with road speed. Perform the same maneuver and release the clutch, the noise will go away or become very faint. Noise may also go away in neutral with the clutch pedal depressed.
