1962 Corvette: Chevrolet Inter-Organization Letters: 1962 Corvette Power Teams

Two rare confidential internal Chevrolet Engineering letters about changes to the 1962 Corvette engine options.  RPO 579 (283ci, 250hp FI) engine never made it into 1961 Corvette production.

In connection with release of the 1962 Corvette, we wish to determine the Sales Department opinion regarding cancellation of two very low volume power teams:

1.  Fuel Injection with regular camshaft.  (Approximately 100 units produced in 1960)
2.  Two 4- barrel (or equivalent) with regular camshaft and Powerglide.  (Approximately 200 units produced in 1960)

Your advice on the above at your earliest convenience will be appreciated.

Dear Mr Baske:

Your letter of September 27 inquired as to the Sales Department opinion concerning cancellation of both the fuel injection engine with regular cam shaft and the dual four-barrel with regular cam shaft and powerglide as options for 1962.

We believe that both of these options can be discontinued in view of their low sales volume.

We understand that you will be able to offer a single four-barrel regular cam shaft engine in the area of 230 h.p., 245 or 250 h.p. and a fuel injection high performance engine in the area of 300 h.p. plus, as the three engine options in 1962.

We believe that the power-team line up or its equivalent would adequately cover the market requirements in 1962.
