In cases where both erratic and high temperature readings are being encountered on 1956 Passenger Cars during the "warm-up" period, the condition may be reduced by the installation of a 10 ohm-5 watt WIRE WOUND resistance in series with the sender unit located in the cylinder block.
The procedure for installing this 10 ohm resistor most satisfactorily is as follows:
- Cut the wire leading from the main wiring harness to the sender at a point near the main wiring harness.
- Splice in the 10 ohm resistor and solder both connections.
- Tape completely over both splices and the resistor with plastic tape.
Practice or removing the radiator pressure caps to correct this condition should be discontinued, as this reduces the overall cooling efficiency of the unit.
