Model Year Highlights
The major highlight for the 1990 model year was the introduction of the long awaited "King of the Hill" ZR-1 Corvette. The ZR-1 Corvette came equipped with the all aluminum LT5 motor featuring double overhead camshafts, 32 valves, 16 fuel injectors (8 primary, 8 secondary) creating 375 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque. The other major highlight for the 1990 model year was a redesigned dashboard featuring a combination of digital and analog gauges. A total of 23 1990 World Challenge race prepared Corvettes were built with the R96 RPO number. This option consisted of heavier duty springs and FX3 adjustable suspension. Owners who chose this option at the dealer could either order a special race prepared motor from Chevrolet or they could install their own.
