This past Saturday, GM leadership behind some of Chevrolet’s most pivotal design milestones in recent history shared their insights and answered audience questions at the 2019 Concours d’Elegance of America on July 27. Two 2020 C8 Corvettes were in attendance and on display for visitors.

Michael Simcoe, vice president, GM Global Design, hosted the Historic GM Design Seminar from 10-11 a.m. EDT at The Inn at St. John’s in Plymouth, Michigan.

At the seminar, attendees heard from executives who designed prominent GM vehicles including the 2020 C8 Corvette, which was revealed in Orange County, California, on July 18. Since the Next Generation Corvette features a mid-engine configuration, designers discussed the unique opportunities and challenges presented by a mid-engine vehicle.

Tom Peters, former chief Corvette designer, held a fireside chat about his career, insights and what it was like to work on the iconic vehicle. Peters answered audience questions following his chat.

Two 2020 Corvettes were present at the event as well as a full mock-up display of the C8 Corvette’s interior for viewing.

The “Concours d’Elegance of America has a long, respected history celebrating the beauty of automotive design, and that’s a history we intend to honor properly,” said Simcoe. Attendees were treated to unique perspectives and stories from a number of GM’s lead designers.

While at the event, a 2020 C8 Corvette convertible prototype was spotted in the parking lot. Like the C7 Corvette, the convertible top will be power actuated. GM has announced in a promotional video that the convertible model of the C8 as well as the all new 2020 C8.R race car will debut sometime in the fall of this year.
