After a $100,000 restoration, a 1958 Corvette in Spokane, Washington became the victim of a speeding Ford Escape that ran a stop sign
With the summer driving season upon us, and society getting back to out and about after a year-long pandemic, undoubtedly, accidents are bound to happen. Unfortunately, today seems to be the day for Corvettes.
Earlier, I reported on a 2021 Corvette that was stolen from a dealership in Novi, Michigan and was involved in a high-speed chase with the Michigan State Police. Shortly after the chase began, the Corvette side-swiped a van and crashed into several parked cars.
Now, we learn of another unfortunate incident earlier today involving a 1958 Corvette in Spokane, Washington that was the victim of a speeding Ford Escape that ran a stop sign.
According to witnesses, a speeding Ford Escape ran a stop sign at the intersection of Maple Street and Rowan Avenue in downtown Spokane. The Escape was t-boned by a pickup truck causing the Escape to flip over on its side and slide across the road into Gary Keyes’ 1958 Corvette.

Keyes was just sitting at the intersection and literally watched all of this happen right in front of him.
According to Keyes, he was just out running an errand to go and get some Rain-X as he was planning on taking the car to Pendleton, Oregon, for the Hotrod-a-rama auto show in a couple weeks.
Keyes spent four years and over $100,000 restoring the Corvette, but after today, it’s unlikely he’ll be taking it to the show in Oregon now.
“I really wish I just went home,” Keyes said. “I’m just mad as hell.”
Police confirmed that the Ford Escape was at fault and the female driver was issued a ticket.
