Option Descriptions

C48 - Deletion Option:
This was a 1967 model year option only. To discourage street use and reduce weight, this option deleted the standard heater and defroster. A radio could not be ordered with the L88 option as well.

F41 - Special Suspension:
Consisted of special heavy duty coil springs on the front end, with heavy duty shocks both front and rear and a heavy duty 7 leaf rear spring. This suspension setup allowed Corvettes with this option to sit slightly lower.

G81 - Positraction Rear Axle:
This is the standard positraction rear axle available on all Corvettes.

J50/J56 - Heavy Duty Power Brake Combination:
Consisted of a special proportioning valve which placed the maximum braking effect at the front wheels in order to compensate for weight transfer under heavy braking, brake shoes with increased structural rigidty and retention. Front brake calipers consisted of dual long cotter pins.

K66 - Transistor Ignition:
This was the standard transistorized ignition that was used on the L71 and L89 equipped Corvettes from 1967-1969.

L88 Engine:

  • The 1967, 1968 and some 1969 L88 engines came equipped with a closed chamber aluminum heads with a 12.5:1 compression ratio. The 1969 1/2 L88 engines came equipped with aluminum open chambered heads which yielded a 12.0:1 compression ratio.
  • All 1967 L88 Corvettes came without emission equipment. 1968 and 1969 L88 Corvettes did come equipped with emission equipment.
  • 1967 L88 Corvettes came equipped with 7-inch Kelsey Hayes wheels for better handling at high speed.
  • 1967 L88 Corvettes came equipped with an aluminum cross-flow radiator with a Harrison expansion tank. Standard 1967 big block Corvettes came equipped with brass radiators.
  • The 1967 L88 engines were more unique than later models because the valve covers, aluminum heads and block were painted Chevy Orange. On the 1968 and 1969 L88 engines, the aluminum heads were left bare and the valve covers were chrome.
  • Because 1967 L88 Corvettes did not come with emission equipment. They were equipped with a black road draft tube mounted on the driver's side of the engine. It was used to draft partially filtered gases out of the engine.

MA6 - Heavy Duty, 10" Diameter Disc Clutch Assembly:
This 1969 only option was included in the cost of the L88 package and consisted of a new 10" diameter heavy duty disk clutch assembly. This new clutch and open chambered L88 heads were not avaialable until the middle of 1969.
