  • The first LT5 engine was fired up at Lotus on May 1, 1986.
  • The first production LT5 engines came off the assembly line in Stillwater, Oklahoma on July 13, 1989.

Miscellaneous Production Notes

  1. 1990:  Approximately 124 1990 ZR-1 were built with the manual AC/HVAC controls (excluding RPO C68).
  2. 1991:  Rumor has it that on 4/23/91, a 1991 ZR-1 was built for a dignitary with a special color:  WA-9795 Green/gray.
  3. 1994:  Two special ZR-1's were built. (1) - Admiral Blue with Torch Red Interior - #443,   (2) - Competition Yellow with Red interior.
  4. Misc:  According to the book, All Corvettes are Red, by James Schefter, approximately 10 to 12 ZR-1 narrow body "Spyders" were built. Some of them were equipped with a special "DR-1" on the license plate in honor of GM Executive, Don Runkle. He was presented with a silver ZR-1 convertible with a yellow interior built by ASC and Chevrolet at Bowling Green.

Birmal vs. A.L. Dunn Head Production
