Corvette Assembly Plant to Shut Down Due to Supply Issues

Earlier today, a member of the C8 Corvette Owner’s group on Facebook posted that the Bowling Green Corvette Assembly Plant was shut down this week.

According to the Chevrolet Corvette Concierge, the rumor was false and the Corvette Assembly Plant is fully operational this week.  However, next week appears to be a different story.

According to Chevrolet Spokesperson Kevin Kelly:

Due to a temporary parts supply issue, we can confirm that Bowling Green Assembly will not run production the week of October 12. Our supply chain, manufacturing and engineering teams are working closely with our supply base to mitigate any further impact on production, and we expect the plant to resume normal operations on Monday, October 19.

This is just another bump in the road for 2020 Corvette production and an ironic twist considering that we just learned 2020 Corvette production would run through the month of December as GM is committed to building out all 2020 orders remaining in the system at status 3000 or higher.

On the flip side, this may be a blessing in disguise.

We previously reported that customers who ordered options such as the outdoor cover and the high performance spoiler would not be receiving those options on their final build.

Rather than eliminate more options due to supply issues and continue with production, GM is being prudent by not upsetting customers any further now that they’ve extended the 2020 production time frame through December.

We’ll update this article with more details as they become available to us.

This has been the worst purchasing experience I have ever endured. The excuses are legitimate, but GM should have made immediate action plans. COVID..ok but supplier issues for corvettes going out the door at msrp plus is unacceptable. The lack of true communication with buyers is appalling. Boiler plate responses from your “consierage “ is a joke. Porsche never has this problem. Sad day for GM.
