After nine weeks of no interruptions, 2021 Corvette production will come to a halt next week due to a parts shortage

On the heels of our announcement yesterday morning that 2021 Corvette production would run through the month of August with 2022 production starting just after Labor Day, we started to hear a rumor that the Bowling Green Corvette Assembly Plant would be shut down next week due to a continued parts shortage related to the dual-clutch transmission.

This morning we were able to confirm with Chevrolet that in fact, the Bowling Green Corvette Assembly Plant will be shut down next week due to a parts shortage; although it wasn’t specified in the message what parts were in short supply.

Below is the official response we received from Chevrolet:

Due to a temporary parts supply issue, we can confirm that Bowling Green Assembly will not run production the week of May 10. Our supply chain, manufacturing and engineering teams are working closely with our supply base to mitigate any further impact on production, and we expect the plant to resume normal operations on Monday, May 17.

As we reported yesterday, dealers received their final allocation numbers for May and June yesterday morning with the numbers for May being pretty solid and the numbers for June being liquid.

Unfortunately, the fact that Chevrolet would not commit to solid allocation numbers for June may be an indication that they were anticipating next week’s shutdown with the possibility of more in the coming weeks.

Time will tell.

I’ve heard about a shortage of single-use bolts for DCT repairs holding up repairs and that there are NO bolts to be found anywhere. I suspect that may be the issue.
