2019 Corvette ZR1 Revealed

Well, here it is folks – introducing the 2019 Corvette ZR1 – in all of its 750 HP goodness!!

Leaking over the web right now, is Car and Driver’s December 2017 issue featuring a 2019 Corvette ZR1 on the cover in the new Sebring Orange Tintcoat.

So let’s get right to the specifics:  750 hp, 680 lb-ft of torque, supercharged OHV V8 engine topped off with an Eaton Supercharger that has a bigger blower than the one used in the Z06 Corvette’s LT4 engine.

The new blower pumps 52 percent  more air through the engine and is 2.9 inches taller than the one used on the Z06.  This necessitated a redesigned hood in order to accommodate the additional height.  Unfortunately,  the increased height of the hood, prevents the driver from clearly seeing the right front side of the car from the driver seat.  Because of stringent pedestrian-protection regulations in place in many European countries, the ZR1 will not be sold in Europe.

All of this new hardware, including additional cooling bricks in the front end behind the grill, increases the curb weight of the ZR1 by approximately 140 lbs as compared to the Z06.  Given that GM believes the ZR1 will yield a 0-60 time in less than three seconds, and a quarter-mile time less than 11 seconds, the additional weight hovering over the front axle will be completely invisible!

Official Reveal by GM?

Of course, the question on everyone’s mind is when will GM officially introduce the ZR1.

It’s been interesting to read all the rumors floating around the last couple days.  Some folks state that it will be at the Dubai Motor Show this coming Sunday, November 12th, while others believe it will be officially unveiled at the Los Angeles International Auto Show at the end of this month.

What we’ve heard here at the Corvette Action Center is that a little teaser will be released by GM – tomorrow – November 9th, with a soft reveal taking place at the Dubai Motor Show on the 12th.  The official reveal is slated to be in LA on November 28th.

Given that the car will not be sold in Europe – we’re willing to believe that the official reveal will be in LA.  However, the Middle East market has an enormous appetite for horsepower, and no shortage of money to pay for it.  We’re not sure if the Middle East shares the same stringent safety regulations as a lot of the EU, but if they do – a physical reveal of the car seems less likely there.  Regardless, information should be revealed there some time this coming Sunday.

Look for the official U.S. reveal to take place in Los Angeles.

Without further ado, enjoy the photos below of the Car and Driver article as well as a teaser video released by Chevrolet a short time ago!
