Condition

A Vehicle may have a concern of service engine light, misfire and engine noise with possible of DTC P0300 P0106 P0506,P3189, P318A, P318B, P318C, P318D, P318E, P318F, P3190.

Cause

Possible broken valve spring.

Correction

During inspection if you determine that the engine has a broken valve spring it will be necessary to perform a cylinder leakage test on the affected cylinder.

If no cylinder leakage is observed perform the following,

For 6.2L engines RPOs L87, LT1, LT4 and LT2 if vehicle has below 800 km (500 miles) replace all valve springs. For vehicles above 800 km (500 miles) just replace the 1 broken valve spring.

For all other engine RPOs L82, L84 and L8T just replace the affected valve spring.

Check for a damaged intake manifold runner for the cylinder with the concern.

General Motors Technical Assistance Center part restriction on valve springs (Part number 12691120) has ended.

We would like to thank all dealers who participated in this restriction for their cooperation.

This valve spring can now be ordered through the regular GM CCA parts process

Use the vehicle identification number (VIN), SI, and the GM Electronic Parts Catalog to determine the correct part to order.

Please order the parts through normal parts process

If you determine that engine has cylinder leakage it will be necessary to inspect further to determine the extent of the engine damage to determine correct repair required;

00-06-01-026M: Engine Replacement After Severe Internal Engine Damage -Replace Intake Manifold

Important: All valve springs will be requested back for further analysis and inspection.
