1978 - 1979 Corvette: Service Bulletin: Glass Roof Panel Trim Separation

Model Year: 1978-1979
Subject: Glass Roof Panel Trim Molding Separation

Number: 79-T-7
Date: April, 1979

To: All Chevrolet Dealers

A few 1978-79 Corvettes equipped with the RPO CC1 glass roof panel may exhibit the condition of the vinyl trim molding separating from the glass panel.

The recommended service correction is application of a two part epoxy, such as 3M P/N 8640, or equivalent between the glass panel and the molding.

Procedure

  1. Remove the roof panel from the vehicle, but do not separate the glass from its frame.
  2. In the area to be bonded, clean both the molding channel and glass thoroughly with a dry cloth to remove dirt and loose adhesive.
  3. Mix epoxy as directed on package. Note cautions and curing time.
  4. Transfer the adhesive into a small plastic bag ("baggie") and twist to push the adhesive into a corner. Cut off this corner to provide the proper bead size of approximately 1/16 inch diameter.
  5. Apply a 1/16 inch diameter bead of adhesive into the molding channel, as illustrated, and place the channel firmly over the glass edge, allowing the excess adhesive to squeeze out.
  6. After the "squeeze out" becomes firm, remove it carefully with a dull blade.
  7. Allow approximately one hour cure time at room temperature before reinstalling the roof panel.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
