Bulletin Covers:

Some 1990 and 1991 Chevrolet Corvettes may experience a 3-2 coastdown clunk. The clunk can be felt around 10-14 miles per hour while lightly braking to a stop. It is most noticeable in D3 range, but can occur in D4 (overdrive) range.

A new 2-4 servo cushion assist spring and spacer plate have been released to alleviate this condition. The new spring is a conical spring which nests inside the current 2-4 servo cushion spring. The new spacer plate has a modified third clutch exhaust orifice.

Date of Production Change: (Figure 1)

--------------------------------------

Beginning May 20, 1991 (Julian Date 140), all 1 YHM models of the HYDRA-MATIC 4L60 were built using the new servo cushion assist spring and spacer plate.

Service Information: (Figure 2)

---------------------------------

The new servo cushion assist spring and spacer plate can be used to service any OYDM, 1 YDM, or 1 YHM model of the HYDRA-MATIC 4L60 transmission built before May 20, 1991. Models built after this date already contain the new spring and spacer plate.

Install the new servo cushion assist spring inside the current servo cushion spring as shown in figure 2. Figure 2 shows the ONLY way the spring should be installed. Do not install the spring upside down. The new spring should not be used by itself.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
