    Default Fun on vacation

We are in the Colorado Rockies on vacation at a Wyndham Resort. This is our third day. When we went out to the car to leave this morning, the people in the next unit (probably a little older than us) were sitting out in front having their coffee, one of the men was out looking at his car (Honda Passport, I think), the two ladies were sitting under the porch and when they saw me (and my wife), they said "We were wondering when you were going to leave." Me, "OH?" "Yea we hear your car every morning and we were just waiting for you to start it up." Me, quite embarrassed, "I'm so sorry." They then said "Oh NO, we love the sound of your car...and the color too! We just like the car really." Me, "Well, thank you very much, we really like it too."

    Gotta LOVE Colorado!
Spent a year stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs,
and REALLY loved the time I spent there!
What areas of Colorado are you hitting Tom?

Andy, we are in Southwestern Colorado.....Pagosa Springs, just west of Wolfe Creek pass and ski area. We love this area and have been coming out here for 30 years. It is only a 6 hour drive for us. This is the first time we've been out here this late though, always before, we had to get back home for the start of school. For the first time since my retirement it feels like I'm retired. The summer just felt like summer, but now that school is back in session and I'm not, it feels like I'm really retired.

When we left we were making the drive down to Chama, NM. It's about 40 miles, we took our time, so it took about an hour. We have friends who have a place down there, and they have told us numerous times we ought to go there and see the place. Well, with the weather not conducive to playing golf, we decided to drive down and check it out. It was a really pretty drive in spite of the weather. It is an time town dating back to the old gold rush days. Their cry to fame is the narrow gauge railway that they still have running with steam locomotives. We stopped and walked around the old depot which has been converted to museum and still working as a depot for the tourists to ride the train.

The coal loading station and the water tower required for the trains to run.

Anyone know what the gray car is used for? I know and this is the first one I've ever seen in person.

Here's a steam locomotive warming up. Notice the smoke coming from the stack.

Some of the scenery along the way.

GREAT pictures! By the sound of things, you're REALLY enjoying retirement.
I just turned 69 this past May, and I'll probably be retired by the end of the year.
Still like repairing computers, but starting to like it less and less. Customers are
having to make do with less and less, so they're loading up the machines that they
have to the max, and when they go down..............BUNCHES of users are impacted,
so they want the machine fixed yesterday. The mental aspect of the repair work is
now tougher than the physical repair itself, and I find that it just beats me up. Looking
forward more and more to hanging up the tool bag and just having some fun for
myself. SNOWPLOW! I've seen a few, and even seen 2 or 3 at work. Darn things throw
the snow WAYYYYYYYYY up and out! Something like that would make short work of
doing my driveway. It would take longer to fire it up than it would to clear the driveway! LOL
Keep enjoying yourself, Tom, and keep those pictures coming.
    Andy
By the way, When I left Fort Carson in 1968 to go home to Pennsylvania before heading to Vietnam,
I drove across RT 70 thru Kansas. Flat as a billiard table. As far as I could see, my 64 Dodge was the
highest thing around, and I was in the middle of a great big ole electrical storm. White knuckles almost
the entire length of the state.

Andy, I suppose I ought to clear something up. I retired from teaching, 36 years in the same school. I now am now focusing on my custom cabinetry business that has been a side for the last 25 years. But I also do some computer work, so I know exactly what you are saying there.

Kansas is flat in comparison to most, you can see a loooong ways.

That 64 Dodge look something like this?

That one was mine when I was in high school. Loved that old Mopar. 383 4bbl, torqueflite.

This evening Rosie and I went to the hot springs. A beautiful evening to do that. even started raining on us a bit. We hopped from pools that were 99 to 108 degrees. There are 20 or so pools, different sizes and temperatures. Very relaxing and therapeutic.

Looks like a great trip Tom. Someday I want to pack the Vette and head west, then north and then back east and see all the sights along the way.

Bob, we are taking it one section at a time. We've done the Grand Canyon, eastern California, Reno back. Then the Michigan, Canada, Lake Ontario, back to Nigara Falls. This is a trip we have done lots of times, because it's close. Still lots of country to see. Jump in the Corvette and get to it.

Not many pictures today, but here's one from my golf round. No comments on the form, I know it stinks. But the rest of the area is beautiful!

Going to have to get me one of those little Corvette trailers you see at Carlisle. Between my camera stuff and the wife's stuff the convertible just doesn't have the room.
