    SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The "Last" Corvette, one of the most legendary sports cars in American automotive history, will be sold at No Reserve during the 36th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event from Jan. 13-21, 2007, in Scottsdale, Ariz. The car is documented as the last 1967 Corvette of the C-2 series production, which is commonly identified as the greatest design of the American muscle car's rich history. Hailed as "The World's Greatest Collector Car Events(TM)," the auction will feature more than 1,100 of the world's finest collector automobiles, attract over 225,000 visitors and be featured on SPEED with 40 hours of live coverage.

    "Being the absolute final car of a world-famous model makes this one of the most collectible cars in the world," said Craig Jackson, president of the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company. "It's exciting to think that someone will leave the Barrett-Jackson Auction with the last C-2 series Corvette ever built." Steve Davis, senior vice president of Barrett-Jackson Auction Company, who consigned the car added, "We've followed this car as it has gained headlines and popularity throughout the country, and are pleased that it will be sold at our Scottsdale event."

    The "Last" Corvette is a 1967 Coupe optioned with a L-36 427-390 hp engine, factory air conditioning, dual side exhaust, power steering, telescopic steering column, 3.55 positrac, M-21 close ratio transmission, AM/FM radio, tinted glass and red stripe tires. The signature components are complemented by a classic Silver Pearl exterior and black interior.

    This legend underwent a major restoration to recapture its clean looks and ferocious bite. Shortly after purchasing the "Last" Corvette in June 2005, Terry Michaelis and his group of specialists at ProTeam Classic Corvette Collection and Sales embarked on a restoration that grabbed automotive headlines throughout the country. From stripping the Chevrolet to its chassis to sewing the last seat cover, ProTeam and numerous high profile restorers returned this classic to stardom.

    "This car symbolizes the end of an era in the long history of Corvette body types," said Michaelis. "As the last of the C2 series, it is certainly a one-in-a-million collectible vehicle, particularly among Corvette enthusiasts and car investors."

    Also known as "The Caboose," the "Last" Corvette has been displayed, photographed, modeled and admired in nearly every way possible. Beginning in late January 2006, just days after the final restorations were complete, the car was debuted at the National Corvette Restorers Society's Winter Regional, where it earned a Top Flight award.

    As the "Last" Corvette draws closer to auction, it will be previewed and showcased at Barrett-Jackson's booth in Hot Rod Alley at the Specialty Equipment Market Association Show on October 31-Nov. 3, 2006, in Las Vegas. The car's last stop before the Barrett-Jackson Auction will be at the Fall Chevy Vettefest on November 18-19, 2006, in Chicago.

    In addition to the show tour, the "Last" Corvette will be featured in a SPEED series titled American Muscle Car: The Last Stingray, which will chronicle the famous car's history and restoration. The series will include six episodes with the first episode premiering on Dec. 7, 2006. The following five episodes will air in consecutive weeks leading up to the Barrett-Jackson Auction.

    Every certified car nut should go to the auction - at least once. I don't really sit and watch the bidding, but walking around and looking at some of the rarest cars in the world, up close and personal, is priceless. I usually go early in the morning so I can see the inside displays before the crush of the crowd - the I have the rest of the day to walk around and check out the cars while they are mostly still under the tents. It's fun to watch on TV, but being there is a much different experience. If anyone want to go, let me know. I can direct you to hotels and motels that won't break your bank, which is easy to do in Scottsdale.

    NAPOLEON, Ohio, Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- SPEED will air a mini-series documenting the life, times, restoration and sale of ProTeam Classic Corvette Collection and Sales' "Last"(TM) Corvette (also known as the Last Sting Ray), the last C2 Corvette produced.

    "The Last Sting Ray," part of the popular American Musclecar programming lineup, is written and produced by Stan Rarden of Restoration Productions LLC. The documentary consists of six half-hour episodes that tell three parallel stories -- the history of the Corvette, the life and times of America's most beloved automobile and the discovery and loving restoration of this automotive icon.


    The documentary is scheduled to begin airing Dec. 7 on SPEED, but in a special "sneak preview," SPEED will air all six episodes of "The Last Sting Ray" back-to-back, beginning at 9 p.m. E.T. on Nov. 24. "The Last Sting Ray" will be the climax of a day-after-Thanksgiving American Musclecar marathon on SPEED.

    "The Corvette is the most influential American car ever produced, and this particular 'Vette is the last one of the most beloved version GM ever made," Rarden said. "The journey of this car from the bustling General Motors factory in St. Louis to quiet, rural Napoleon, Ohio, home to the world's largest and most dynamic classic Corvette collection, is a story which will appeal to automotive enthusiasts and collectors everywhere."

    The "Last" is the 186,981st produced by General Motors and is documented as the last 1967 Corvette (VIN #22940) of the C2 series production -- widely regarded by collectors and enthusiasts as the greatest Corvette design. It is also the last factory 427 cid mid-year big-block ever built. This combination of significant "lasts," according to Michaelis, is what makes VIN #22940 so valuable.

    To further illustrate its status as an esteemed collectible, Michaelis pointed out that in a 10-year span, the vehicle appreciated 10 times in value. Purchased in 1995 by collector Bill Mock for $22,940 ($1 per sequential VIN number), Michaelis later acquired the car from Mock in 2005 for $229,400 ($10 per sequential VIN number).

    Since June 2005, the vehicle was treated to an extensive restoration at Nabers Brothers in Houston and was granted "Top Flight" certification from the National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS), GoldCertification at the 2006 Bloomington Gold Corvette show and a Lion Award at the Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance.

    The 1967 Corvette Sting Ray will be the centerpiece of the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company's booth at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

    The promotional tour will end January 2007, when the vehicle is sold at No Reserve during the famed Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Ariz.
    Michaelis estimates the "Last" selling for as much as seven figures.

    However, the "Last" is more than the restoration of an amazing car. ProTeam and Lance Miller of Carlisle Productions are using the project to raise awareness of the deadly disease Amyloidosis. ProTeam has earmarked a dollar-per-dollar $40,000 pledge from the project for donation to the Chip Miller Charitable Foundation.
