Default Are members willing to support another Cruisefest?

    Hello folks,

I was reflecting this morning, and I realized that I miss driving my Vette across the country. And then my thoughts turned to the venerable Cruisefest.

It then dawned on me that over the years, we have lost many of our leaders who saw and planned the Cruisefest, to promote our love for this little sports car and to grow our connection to one another. We were youngings back then, and so we merely took in the sights, food, camaraderie, friendships, and good times. They took in also the satisfaction of promoting our sport in hopes that in the future, we took the reigns.

Today, we should lead in this endeavor and plant the seed for the future of our shared interest. We were youngings then, and so we should take the lead to expand our love for the sport, and in turn, we honor those that came before us on the tasking of gathering next year (it may be a little of an impossible task to plan for this year).

So what's next after deciding to organize a Cruisefest? Well, we can develop a survey for 3 to 5 locations. The trick is that with the location comes the primary duty to do the leg work in planning. For example, the biggest event we have here in New Mexico is the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. However, it is usually on the first week of October, so that limits its viability in support (if it is important for you to bring your school-aged kids, or if you dread seen a drop of rain on your Vette ), and it is about the time when the first rains of the fall appear. But on the up-side, you and your kids would love the balloon fiesta. It is an awesome event! Of course, it would be a momentous task, but I would be willing to do the leg work. Lodging wise, by May, the value pricing in lodging are gone. But the fiesta's head quarters are down the road from me, and I know that they would be happy to sponsor us in some sort of way (like VIP parking).

Additionally, we could piggy back with the Old Santa Fe Trail Corvettes and their annual gathering at,"Summer in Hyde Park, some are not", event. Jim Rose is a regular attendant to this gathering. I, shamefully learned about it from Jim Rose himself I had heard about their events, but since I have always been trying to drive cross country, I never paid it enough attention. These folks have a great event, and one year, Hyde park was closed due to a fire that was close-by, so they had a back-up plan, and gathered at the local Chevrolet dealer, who graciously accommodated them, and it was a success. This would allow me to do the necessary leg work with them, and not be overwhelmed with gathering lodging, planning the food, nor having to do the tasks that require many members to participate in. Plus, I can throw a couple of plans to drive to Bandelier National Monument ( Bandelier National Monument (U.S. National Park Service) ), and even perhaps a visit to the Unser Museum. Here is a link of this year's Summer at Hyde park, which is in August (usually held in July). Summer in Hyde Park

So what it takes to support a Cruisefest? Primarily attendance! The member has to show up. Now, please lay out serious considerations to support it. Do not let it linger as a back-up plan in case there is nothing good showing on TV. You could try to implement it as part of one of your vacation plans for the year. Try to combine it as an opportunity for you to visit that special place you would want to visit with your family. For example, a popular amusement park visit can help you get your teen's willingness to go along with you on this trip. Hundreds of venues are usually on the way or close by at the location of a Cruisefest. Make it a fun trip!

What is the best way to get there? Of course, any which way you can. However, no matter whether you are the type of enthusiast who rather drive, tow, or ship your Vette, or perhaps you prefer to drive the family car, then what is most important is for you to show up and gather with your fellow members. We have had members take a plane ride, show up, and talk about their pristine Vette and still gather ample attention and appreciation (I won't mention who they are ). And please understand that most employers, given ample notice, will support your vacation at the selected time. The key is early planning and notification with your employer and even your kid's school principal. Most educators will support a trip in which it will expose their students to culture, history, and travel.

Come-on folks, at least vote. If the majority don't want a Cruisefest, at least we'll know. There are no repercussions (How could there be any?) for voting your mind about it.

I guess a more commonly visited forum would yield more results. But the one where the Cruisefest threads normally post was not letting me post this.

Isn't it the truth, though? L81's lead!!!

I would depending on where it is and when. Do I still count as a C3 person even though I don't have it any more?

I voted yes and would try very hard to attend. Missed the last non-CF in Bowling Green due to the forest fires near my house. Had the cars packed to the gills, ready to evacuate. Selecting a date for 2014 can be done, but would probably limit attendance, maybe 8 to 10 Corvettes. I know my CC clubs have events planned, and the Museum festivities, escpecially the 20th Anniversary celebration, take precedent. I have had a lot of fun on each CF, became friends with all the participants, and would like to get together with them again. But as said previously, attendance kept declining, even with MAMW hosting our event two of the years. I would suspect that the previous attendees would be inclined to arrange their schedules so they could attend, but we need new members also to build up the attendance. Eight to 18 Corvettes is not sufficient to support our Cruise Fests. Activities need to be planned, and it takes several, if not more, people in the same geographic area to do all the planning. Even though the Cleveland CF was a success, it was thru the Herculean effort of Andre to make it sol. That is too much for one or two people, so I expect that 2015 would be more reasonable for the next CF to occur. Only question, where and who will do the organizing?

I voted "yes". But I've been on the ground floor of three of these and it takes a LOT of people (and time from those people) involved to make it work. I would do it again though. I would help wherever I could and do what I can to help organize it. I miss the friendships Rosie and I have developed over those gatherings.

Gerry, maybe you want me to move this to a place of wider viewing?

Stefan, I agree my friend. But I am afraid that it would take efforts of a Jedi Knight, no less, to move this thread to a more prominent forum. A Jedi Master could move it and he or she would make us forget where it was even started Lmao!!!

Barret, for this year the Old Santa Fe Trail Corvette would be relatively easy for you.

Tom, yes! Move it to where it will get participation from everyone. Thanks!

OK Gerry, I'll figure out where it will get the most views and move it there.

Gerry you're always welcome to come to Edmond OK to the COCC Corvette Round Up May 9th and 10th. Other than that I'll probably see you at the Old Santa Fe Trail Corvette picnic in Santa Fe.

    Default Cruise

I'd be interested but it depends on where and a number of things. Right now I'm still finishing rebuilding my Vette and unsure how far I want to try for the time being.
I'd love to go on a cruise but time will tell if it's feasible or not this year, and even then it depends on getting time off and finishing the fixes I need to do on the car.
