We would like to be there for another cf. We had a real blast at the inaugural bash and would love to do it again. We visited NM a few years back and had a good time. The drive would be long but we love to cruise anyways.
I have always thought however that a CF would be fun to do at the worlds largest one day gathering of car enthusiasts...The Woodward Dream Cruise. It goes for more than a week and is a blast to be at.
We will be watching for more info on this.
Gerry I sent you a text a few weeks ago but figured your number had changed.

Maybe it's just too early in the morning but I can't figure out how to vote. I'd like to go to another one. The '81 needs a road trip.

Chas, I sent you a PM

Everyone, please keep submitting ideas, if you have them, because if this voting question comes back as a "yes", then there will be another voting question placed as a likely destination to hold a 2015 Cruisefest (and of course, i am only a CAC member; Rob and his administrators would decide whether to promote a 2015 Cruisefest).

I personally DO NOT attend many car shows as a participant. Specially, I do not attend many all-inclusive car shows as a participant (perhaps I have done that 3 times), for the overwhelming winners on those are 66 GTO's, 61 Impala's, 69 Camaro's, 70 Chevelles, and so on. I prefer to be judged against my peers. Why? Because fellow Corvette and Nova owners (I have a 71 Acadian which is pretty rare) know their cars. And when someone compliments your ride when he or she knows a lot about your beloved car, it means a lot more than the casual cars show enthusiast.

I have only missed the 2012 National Nostalgic Nova's Mini Nationals at Pleasanton, California because I did not finish my 427 swap on the Acadian timely, and when I jumped on Gail to make the trip, an hour out on the road, she broke down big time when she started to back fire and would not go faster than 40 MPH. I tried a carburetor swap, but then it was to late for me to make it. It was as though, a mysterious force was keeping me planted in New Mexico. That year sucked.

So folks, consider that. Do you want an honest judging of your ride, fun trips to points of interests, and the best parties around? Or do you want mostly folks who only deal with their Toyota to tell you how beautiful your Vette is?

Also, please consider (when the question comes up) a particular destination and how you can tie it to your own visiting plans. For example, perhaps aunt Mary or uncle George live near by, and you have not seen them in a while; or perhaps you have not seen a Major League Baseball game of your favorite team in a while (mine was 8 years ago in Boston, when I watched the Oakland A's on my birthday ).

So make it fun. And please also post why you would, can't, or won't attend. Maybe' as well, if perhaps you volunteer your reason, for example, "I won't venture more that 50 miles from where I live", or,"Maybe I could make it if I could entice my kids to an amusement park", or,"my employer only allows me vacation in the month of _________."

Some of these possibilities could well result in your condition becoming likely. So keep the faith.

If organizing one is too much trouble, consider holding one in conjunction with a larger group like an NCM event or Fun Fest. That way the heavy pulling like cruises will be planned by the larger entity.

And that works as well. What is not seemingly working is attracting the membership to vote. Only 19 members have voted, and in one year-model forum group there are at least 4 or 5 times that amount.

I would prefer max participation even if 100 to 150 participating members would have voted,"I won't".

come on folks, help us determine if a Cruisefest is in our immediate (2015) future. Thanks!

    2 Events past...

Some of our members will remember the pre CruiseFest Events...

Being the curator and creator of L81VetteRegistry I was very active in the beginning and tried to rally 1981's to see the importance of their Corvette (every Corvette is Important part of the history and the Corvette Family) we had our on post to board on our site as well as had a chat room that we encouraged anyone to join in. The Chat Room was every Sunday evening around 7:00 et we attracted around 6 to 30 members from the Registry and the Action Center.

Bowling Green NCM contacted me (or the Registry) to be involved in the 2001 Museum celebration. I felt honored and privileged to participate and said "Hell Ya"

    Long story short:
The MUSEUM was actually working with the 82 CE group and leading me on about it being 2001. I assumed 2001 ~ 1981 a 20 year celebration and our 1981 would be the show case for the Event.... WRONG.. Won't mention names, most are gone a couple still remain, so ..... I expressed my displeasure with several involved in the planning and those in Control of the NCM. The Registry had 27 Corvettes register for the Event and at one point we counted 33 The total 1982 Count was somewhere around 16 ~ 18.....

The Museum events coordinator offed me an olive branch.. what did I think about being involved in an event for C3's.. Again I offered my time, MONEY and contacts. We had our discussions about the name I recommended "SharkFest" and thought everyone was on board with that name After spending a few $$ getting a professionally looking poster made and mailing to many Corvette Clubs and distributing The poster and information to many personal friends and contacts across the MidWest and West, NCM management posted the event on the NCM calender as a C3 Gathering again long story short mass confusion and monies that I personally spent and donated to the NCM to help offset their costs...

I do NOT have a warm fuzzy feeling when someone mentions the NCM, I could go into the auction at the 2001 event ... but I will leave that for another time...

So for me to get excited about attending events at Bowling Green I would more than Likely decline or not register and just show up to see old friends and enjoy our lifestyle and the great story's from years past and dream of day gone, but remember the time of youth and the fun I and other had... across this great Country the Corvette and the Lifestyle have been a big part of my life from as far East as Ohio, South to Texas, North to South Dakoto, West to California I have experience what most can only dream about, yet I managed to live it and enjoyed every minute..

Events need direction and someone or some group to keep a sense of organization ..... One of the best events My wife I have attended were the early years of the Black Hills Corvette Classic... Until Zora made his appearance in 1984 the Hill Event would fluctuate around 150 car a year, 1984 I believe exceeded 300 registered cars,,, and now I can not even image the number ,.. The other event we attend that really stand out and will forever be a warm fuzzy experience was the Event the people in Colorado put together for CruiseFest I think that was 2007.. I don't recall the total number of participants, but it was in my mind poorly attended by our membership and the Colorado contingency barely broke even on the event

I wish I had the answer Gerry, just good memories and of course my unfettered opinions

I found the Colorado Cruisefest very fun. Especially those two-drinks coupons every happy hour day. Lmao! I regretted that it was only a 7 hour drive for me. Part of the fun is driving our Vettes long distance.

In 2004 the highlight was the dinner at the Auburn-Cord museum. And we had the Auburn mayor at our table. How cool was that? And walking the museum before and after dinner. Awesome!

Heck, I even enjoyed our visit to Effingham, Il. The Mid-America folks really went all out for us.

2002 at Bowling Green had the best pool party by a Corvette group ever!!!! Andre became a Colonel under General Alexander (May he rest in peace).

I regret not attending the Cleveland Cruisefest, but I was getting Gail repainted and they took a little longer than planned.

    Definitely great times.

To pull off a successful CruiseFest takes a lot of time and dedicated people. Lots of people......

When we held the CF in Colorado, we had a core group of about 8 local people that knew the area well, a great leader/master planner and the support of a fantastic Vette club where we could draw on a vast pool of volunteers to help with the drives/tours and a business that specializes in Corvettes to sponsor our show and do some hands on "how to's".

Couple of things to consider are that the economy still sucks and no one knows what gas prices are going to be. Premium is currently $4.20 a gal in my area of Michigan (yes, I moved to Michigan). That alone is the major factor in how much Vette time I have. Not sure how many people are willing to drive cross country any more. Just a thought but,,,, maybe plan two CruiseFests. One in 2015 and one in 2016. Find out what people would like to do/see. Draw a line down the middle of the country, pick a central location in each half to make it a reasonable drive. I'd recommend picking cities that have a strong Corvette club to help with the planning and logistics of pulling off a successful gathering.

Mind you, I'm not trying to put a damper on this as I for one, would love to attend another CruiseFest. I truly believe that if a group of motivated people started planning soon, we might be able to pull off a 2015 CruiseFest. And, Bud has a secret handshake he needs to share with some more people...

    Scott
I don't like making plans for the day. The word "premeditated" is not useful when it gets thrown around a courtroom.

Who would have thought that a little over a year later, gas prices would be at $2 per gallon average?!?!

For New Mexico, Old Santa Fe Trail Corvettes does a nice little gathering at Hyde Park in Santa Fe, but they organize a dinner the Friday before and other activities. Jim Rose has shown up a few years now with his local group.
