It was on display in the museum. The Aerovette was the one in the shop on the rack. That's another one that needs to go to the GM Heritage Collection. I really wonder how these cars ever got away from GM in the first place.

AUCTION SETS 40 WORLD AUCTION SALES RECORDS, HOSTS ENTERTAINMENT MEGASTARS AND RAISES NEARLY $2.2 MILLION FOR CHARITY

    January 23, 2017
    Posted by Barrett-Jackson

One of the most important pieces of American automotive history, this 1960 Chevrolet Engineering Research Vehicle (CERV) 1 (Lot #1390) was one of the top sellers at the 2017 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction.

    • 2017 Scottsdale sales totaled $102.5 million (unaudited) and raised more than $2.2 million for charity during the Scottsdale Auction
    • Entertainment and sports icons, including Steven Tyler, Justin Bieber, Floyd Mayweather, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Burt Reynolds, Bubba Watson, Reggie Jackson and Michael Phelps, among others, were in attendance
    • Barrett-Jackson consigned 1,719 vehicles, the most in the company’s 46-year history, set 40 world auction sales records, including the sale of Kindig-It Design’s 1965 Volkswagen Type II 21-Window Deluxe Bus (Lot #1315) that sold for $302,500.
    • The impressive Charlie Thomas Collection, featuring 146 vehicles, sold for a combined total of just over $1.7 million.
    • Over 1,800 automobilia pieces sold for more than $2.5 million, including an extremely rare 1960s Esso Aviation porcelain neon airport hangar sign (Lot #9487), which sold for $82,250.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Jan 22, 2017 Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions®, kicked off its 46th year by breaking more than 40 vehicle auction sales records (as verified by Hagerty Data) during the 46th Annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction, held Jan. 14-22, 2017, at WestWorld of Scottsdale in Arizona. During the automotive lifestyle event, 1,719 vehicles were consigned, the most at one auction in the company’s history, with vehicle sales totaling approximately $100 million (unaudited) at a 99.5-percent sell-through rate. Over 1,800 pieces of automobilia sold for more than $2.5 million (unaudited) bringing the total sales to more than $102 million. Approximately 320,000 people attended this year’s auction, including many of today’s hottest celebrities, professional athletes and entertainment personalities.
International pop star Justin Bieber came to the auction block with his 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia (Lot #1372), which sold for $434,500 – a new record at auction.
“This year’s Scottsdale auction was a tremendous success,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Despite the rain and colder temperatures, we had a phenomenal turnout, set 40 world auction sales records and sold more than 1,800 pieces of authentic automobilia. This year’s entertainment factor was through the roof. From Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Steven Tyler and Grammy award-winning Justin Bieber, through undefeated pro boxing champion Floyd Mayweather and the most decorated Olympian in history, Michael Phelps, to two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson, there was no shortage of entertainment and full-throttle excitement.”The Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction gave bidders the chance to select from a wide range of American muscle, European classics, exotic sports cars and one-of-a-kind customs. The top cars sold in Scottsdale include:
    • 1964 Aston Martin DB5 (Lot #1397) – $1,485,000

“Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale has become the most anticipated event of the year as it is the barometer for the hobby,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Week, as proclaimed by the city of Scottsdale, is an immersive entertainment experience that offers something every person can enjoy. The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auction was the only place to find the greatest selection of cars, the most passionate enthusiasts, the largest number of charity cars and the biggest displays by top automakers, all inside more than a million square feet of covered space.”The Charlie Thomas Collection, which featured 146 vehicles, sold for an impressive combined total of just over $1.7 million, with the top three vehicles including a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (Lot #1284), a 1957 Ford Thunderbird “F” Convertible (Lot #1282) and a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 190SL Roadster (Lot #1283).Eight charity vehicles crossed the Scottsdale block this year, including Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and four-time Grammy winner Steven Tyler’s 2012 Hennessey Venom GT Spyder (Lot #3003). Tyler roared onto the stage to help sell his rare Hennessey, which sold for $800,000, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting Janie’s Fund.“Steven Tyler entered the auction arena in true rock and roll style,” said Jackson. “With a grand entrance featuring lights, music and Steven standing in the passenger seat, the crowd was on their feet like we were at one of his concerts. There’s really no place in the world, like Barrett-Jackson, that brings together superstars and super cars.”The complete docket of charity vehicles included:

    Default Monday Corvettes

The early days of any auction are known to be the time to pick up an affordable collector car. I was somewhat surprised at the high prices of some cars early in the week at Barrett-Jackson but I feel that plays into the strong market right now. Let's take a look at some sales on Monday starting with this 1982 Corvette that hammered for $10,780. It was a really nice appearing silver/charcoal 2-tone showing 65,000 miles. The fact that the Carfax fhowed an accident with another car may have held it back some. Lot#20

Lot# 35 was a well equipped 1980 that sold for $10,450. It was painted a light blue that doesn't show up on the list of colors for 1980 but would be a nice driver.

Lot # 97 was a 1997 red/red 6 speed with 65,000 miles showing. Even with the Carfax showing some sort of accident reported it was a very nice looking car.

All in all I'd say that Monday was a very good day to buy a nice driver quality Corvette. The last one for the day was this 1982 silver/charcoal example, lot#100. It sold for $11,550 including commissions. All of the Monday cars listed above included buyer's commissions in their sale price.

    Default Tuesday Corvettes

Prices took a big jump Tuesday as evidenced by this 1978 Pace Car, lot# 218. This car was only showing 1900 miles on the odometer and that appeared to be right. I say that as there were many of these around Indiana where I lived when they were new. It was not any problem to disconnect the speedometer cable at the cruise control transducer and drive the car for many miles without moving the odometer. I have seen many of these cars for sale at later times showing very low to near zero miles but when you open the hood the engine dirt and wear tells a different story. This car looked new in and out. It sold for $36,300.

This 1972, lot# 242.1, was a nice driver, very clean in and out. It had a few appearance mods on the engine but was a sharp car that would be fun to take to the cruise nights. With 85,000 miles showing it hammered for $25,300.
