    Default Lap Top as Code Reader

    Hi Every one;
    I'm looking for an economical way to read trouble codes, including ABS and SRS (air bag). I see "ELM327 USB scanner" cables for sale on the web at incredibly reasonable prices.
    Is anyone using their laptop to read codes and do you have recommendations for hardware and software?

    Thanks; Peter in Canada, enjoying the weather in my '96 LT-4!

    I bought a cheapo ELM327 on ebay. None of my OBDII vehicles are GM so cannot recommend any particular software.

    Hi Mikey; Did it come with software, and does your elm327 read ABS or Airbag codes? If not, is this just a matter of finding the software that could?
    Thanks for your help so far, Peter

    It came with generic software (virtually useless) and none of the cheapo ELM327 readers can read much beyond basic engine codes that begin with a 'P'.

    If you want to use a laptop and it is not a cheap date:

    HPTuners.com >> Performance At Your Fingertips
    or
    https://www.efilive.com/

    These are serious programs which can do wonders or harm.
