Default Just in from Geneva: Impressions

Well, for those that might be interested, I made it back safely from Qatar and Iraq and then hit the road for Geneva with my wife, to see the new C6 as my reward.

Here are my impressions from the show.

My first glimpse of the C6 was through the busy crowd of the auto show, as we approached the GM area on the floor. I was able to see the rough outline of the Vette through the hustle and bustle of the crowd. My heart really jumped, and my blood began to race as we walked even closer to this thing that I have been waiting to lay eyes on for 3 years or more. I remember saying "holy crap" over and over as we walked closer and closer to the car.

As we approached the Vette booth, there it was, a red coupe, well within arms reach over the 2 foot fence, and a silver convertible on a rotating display. My mouth about dropped as I realized I was actually looking at a C6. It took me about 5 minutes of staring at their beauty before I remembered that I had my camera in hand and began to snap some pictures. (I'll attach as many as I can here). I have to say, the first time you see this car, it is spectacular. There really is something about it when you see it in person, it is just awesome.

A few minutes later, I actually touched the red one. My wife gasped, but no bells or alarms went off, as we began to get a little bit closer to the car and investigating it's contents. I do have to say, that it's pretty much as other folks have described and looks like you'd expect. But there is just something about seeing it up close, knowing that this is REALLY it, the real deal, puts you into a slight frame of mind that you are looking at something special.

Here are our observations that I don't believe have been discussed before:

Close examination of the front lights revealed a solid and clean looking light, light bezels, and optics...nothing cheezy here. BUT, we did notice that on the inside of the glass that covers the 3 lights, there was a haze or filmy layer of junk. It was very subtle, but would be distinguishible by a critical eye. We rubbed the light, but the haze stayed, and it was clearly on the inside. Like looking at a hazy winshield.

We also noticed that the carpet in the trunk of both the coupe and vert, regardless of the interior color, was gray! It didn't seem to matter what color leather was in the car, the trunk was covered in gray carpet...weird.

The Nav system display was on and visible...very cool. The precision and colors were sharp and clean. A very nice accessory. We also noticed that at the top of the display "XM channel" and "No XM Signal" were displayed. The Vettes in Geneva didn't have the XM fin on the roofs, but it is clear that the Nav system LCD panel will control the XM tuner that probably lies elsewhere in the car.

At one point the "GM girl" let us walk out into the heart of the display and check out the Silver vert on the rotary. We didn't mess with the top, but were able to see the car from a closer view. I actually got to open and close the door at one point (a big deal for me). By placing your fingers behind the door "grip" and touching quite gently, you will hear a mechanical action inside, and the door will swing free. It closes with the same weight as a C5 door, but shuts with a Mercedes-like thump...Nice!!! There are little red LED's next to the door lock pins that flash when the car is closed up and locked. The HUD is awesome, the interior is clean and sweet, and just about what I would expect. The reverse lights are bright, and the CMBL thingy is barely noticable on the butt of the car. It is just so striking that you don't see it.

Well that's about it. I am unable to post any pics right now...too large!!!! If someone can host them, I will email them to you for posting here. Otherwise I'm attempting to resize them now.

The C6 is a beautiful thing and an amazing car...even at 1 G as we say in my business. It's incredible to witness, easy on the eyes, and fun to look at. I can't imagine what it will be like to hear one growl, and eventually drive one away!

I'm sooo jealous man! That's something you'll always remember. I saw the C6 at the Chicago Auto Show but it's got nothing on Geneva. Thanks for sharing the info about what you saw. We are all anticipating the release of the C6.

I guess if I had to really find something I'm not too crazy about with the rearend, it would have to be the round tail lights. I really like the oval tail lights of the C5. Other than that, I love the overall look and how they integrated the black panel and center exhaust underneath. Very cool!
