    Default STS turbo

Can anyone tell me what they've heard about STS turbos? I'm thinking of putting twin turbos on my Z06. From what I've read about this particular make, they replace the OE mufflers. Sound out the back is said to be just a little bit louder than stock. Price for this set-up is around $8,500. They said it could be installed in a weekend in your garage. HP increase is said to be about 150-200 depending on boost. They recommend 7 lbs boost. Thanks in advance for any input.

Will it pass CA smog? Do the STS turbos have a CARB (California Air Resources Board) number? Haven't done much to my vettes mainly becasue of CARB.

Oh...lots of articles about these in vette mags usually favorable comments. Love to do the same but see above.

I spoke with an STS rep in Utah and he told me that the units are CARB approved. I know, I wondered about that too. Wouldn't want to spend the money or time to install only to have to remove them.

CARB legal. All I need now is a big $timulus check

    Default sts turbo

a friend of mine had a 2007 z06 he would race at weekend track events. I also had a new viper which would outrun his z06 so he installed the sts twin turbo setup. He shipped the car to a tampa authorized installer and all he had was grief. finally he had a firey accident when one or both of the turbos sitting back by the gas tank leaked some oil and caught fire. the car was slightly damaged but easily repairable. He repaired it and sold it. it ran strong but very high maintanance. just too much heat to deal with especially in florida. get a supercharger by a&a and make 150 to 200 hp without all that heat and tubing. ed.

Thanks for your suggestion. I'm still debating on the STS set-up. Have heard other stories about high heat buildup at the rear.

Staci what's his name did a two parter on installing the twin turbo setup on a stock c6 for his show "Gearz." Pretty interesting, and it only took him two half hour episodes!!

I have seen STS systems perform on the street and on the dyno. They work very well, but the quality seems sub-par. One thing you'll need to do for sure is to replace the plastic air bridge with a metal one. Maybe STS even recommends that now... the ones I saw were early release models. On the first dyno pull, the stock bridge ballooned out and then blew off the throttle body under boost. For the next pull, the hose clamp was replaced with a more solid torca clamp and the bridge just blew apart instead.

If it matters, they are CARB approved - EO#: D-593-1

I've decided to hold off getting the STS system. Positive and negative opinions have been just about 50/50. At this time I'm contemplating purchasing a mid-year. That $timulus check you mentioned would come in handy right about now.
