    Default Magnuson Supercharger...

I am planning on ordering a Magna Charger MP112 5th gen for my 97 vette. I was wondering do I have to run diff. octane? I run 100 right now. Is their any cons of this type of supercharger? I already have heads, cam full exhaust, and intake. Im wondering how this would perform with the aftermarket parts I already have? Me and my friend plan in putting it in in a day. He is ASE certified Im just the helper lol. I know it would have to be tuned right after installation. Any help/addvice is appreciated.. Thanks

100 octane unleaded should be high enough, but you may want to run some tests as the stock compression ratio, combined with the blower and your aftermarket parts is going to have cylinder pressure higher than you'd have with the blower alone.

I know it would have to be tuned right after installation.
That's an understatement. Finding the right tuner will be critical.

Also, know that you'll have performance beyond the design envelope of the stock bottom end--especiallyt the pistons--so, if you run the car hard on a regular basis, don't be surprised when you have a failure.

All right thanks for the info. I have a dyno in town here in modesto he's pretty good so Im gonna set something up with him. Im not gonna run hard only once in awhile so hopefully nothing fails.

Add Water/Meth Injection to keep your pistons cool, I had a Mag on my stock LS1 and after 30,000 miles broke #7 Piston Ring Land due to overheated Cylinder Temps, Also cracked the Sleeve. Now I have an Iron Block LS1 6 liter but still use Meth injection for insurance. Lookup TeamZR1 for more information. Team ZR-1 Chevy Corvette Racing Automotive Repair - Custom Tuning

Well my second gear went out about a week after we finished it so it's in the tranny shop gettin a completley new high performance trans. high output shafts etc. Im glad it happened sooner than later though. SO all my main probs will be out of the way I know i'll have others but, not as expensive as a tranny would be lol. But, During the installation I became good friends with pete callaway so that's pretty cool.

MAKE SURE your tuner understands how these intakes work and why everyone seems to burn up #7. Most of these installs will tell you to run about 11.5 to 11.8 AFR. This is an average to all pistons, so you will be lean on #7 and rich on #2. Run no more than 11.3 on the AFR. Start way fat on fuel. Pull the #7 plug often and take a look, it will tell you how things are going. I run 11.3 down to 10.5 on my Twin Turbo and have never had an issue. The difference between a few HP and a new motor, well..........

    Good luck on the install!
