Consumers heading out to their local Chevy dealer to test drive the all-new Corvette will be amazed. Modern, advanced, refined and even more powerful, the new 'Vette is as stylish as it is sophisticated. As the poster child for the great American sports car, the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette coupe went on a diet -- a bit smaller in overall dimensions -- but no less capable.

With the unveiling of the sixth generation of its legacy, the Chevrolet Corvette roars into the 2005 model year with more power, passion and precision. Engineered to reach a new standard of performance car excellence, the uniquely American performance two-door is more competition influenced than any previous Corvette.

Chevrolet engineers keyed in on raw performance, improved ride comfort, precision build quality and technologically sophisticated interior appointments during the development of the new C6.

While the 'Vette faithful might mourn the loss of the speedster's hideaway headlamps, the body's svelte, low, long and sleek shape reminds the envious that it is and always will be a Corvette.

Still built at Corvette "Ground Zero" in Bowling Green, Ky., the Chevrolet sports coupe receives a strong new 6.0L V-8 LS2 engine based on GM's Gen IV small-block family. Combined with a revised suspension and more powerful brakes, the new Corvette delivers extreme performance capabilities while offering value, style, quality and comfort.

Power is transferred to the street through a four-speed automatic with performance algorithm shifting or a six-speed manual gearbox.

The new rear-drive Corvette was the recipient of extensive aerodynamic development that included digital simulations, Corvette racing experience and more than 400 hours of wind tunnel testing. The result -- an exterior shape designed to be fresh, yet reflect the passion exemplified by the classic mid-decade Corvettes of 1963-1967. Exposed headlamps are back after a 40-plus year absence.

On the road, the C6 is potent, but never overbearing. Balanced is a word to truly describe the driving experience. Reassuring but not soft; comfortable, but never boring, is a great way to articulate the experience.

For those with the means, the Chevrolet Corvette could very easily be a daily driver -- especially for those who crave attention.

For those drivers that desire to kick the performance up a notch, Chevrolet offers an optional Z51 Performance Handling Package. The equipment roster for this upgrade includes power steering, engine oil and transmission coolers, stiffer springs and stabilizer bars, larger disc brakes and a 3.15 performance axle ratio (as opposed to the standard 3.42 ratio in the base coupe).

Inside the passenger cabin is all-new, with just as much interior room as the C5, despite smaller vehicle dimensions. Greatly improved materials, craftsmanship and functionality deliver premium quality designed to enhance the driving experience. Drawing on the Corvette's dual-cockpit heritage, the passenger compartment has a flowing wraparound upper feature line. The result lends spaciousness to the passenger and a nestled pod for the driver. The cargo space can accommodate two golf bags.
