    Default 1990 Vette Tachometer problem

I need some help please! My 90 Vette Tach only works once in a while. I have replaced the distributor clips going to the tach. Still works intermitantly. Could this problem be a bad filter? If so, they are hard to locate? I can find one which goes to an 89' but not for the 90. Are they the same? Thanks very much!! Jim

    How about my problem?

My tach is pegged at the top as soon as I start up. No fluctuation, no movement, just up.

    '90 tachos have many problems
Generally a cluster fix is needed

If the problem is constant, and not intermittent, I would check the signal (wiring) before pinning the rap on the gauge board.

@Daily; does the tach peg as soon as the key is on, also? (without the motor on?) Or only after firing up?

    OK here it is.

When I turn the engine on the Tach needle pegs at the top and doesn't even flutter.

When I turn the engine off the needle stays at the top.

When I just turn the key on the needle bottoms out and stays there until I start the engine and then BAM 6000+ RPM showing without a flutter.

    Does that help?

Well, yeah, sort of... I don't know exactly where to send ya' on it, but if it's repeatable every time, it won't be hard to solve...

OK, I was wrong, my tach isn't pegged at idle, it's at 6000 when the engine is off and I can watch it try to go up. The needle stops at the far right edge of the tach face of course. It looks like the needle is set at -6000- instead of -0-.

Can a needle be set wrong, like at 6000 instead of at 0?

The car is sitting outside in the drive, it's off and showing 6000rpm parked with the key in my pocket.
