    Default Dashboard Glare

Next question as a new owner.

I get a lot of dashboard glare and reflection in the windshield when the sun is in the wrong position. I see that some of the catalogs sell cloth dashboard covers, but these seem intended for preservation, not glare.

Since I am sure this is a common problem, what do you do?

    Thanks, Bob

That was a major pain int the u know whats when i had my 95. I started using low gloss Armor All on the dash and it solved the problem for me.

Well, I already tried the low gloss - helped but not enough. I guess the cover is the next step!

    Thanks, Bob

    Default get polorized glasses

I removed all glare simply by trying different sunglasses. The polorized ones took all the glare away . Now I see whats outside, not that annoying glare of my dash top !

    Default Glare

    Ditto on the polarized sunglasses.
We also use them when fishing so we can see below the surface of the water (the fish).
Much better than Armor-All (it molds) or a cover.

Dash covers serve two purposes, they eliminate the glare and protect the dash from fading. You can buy some fairly good quality ones realitively cheap. The ones I buy (I use them in all my vehicles), cost around $50-$60, including personallized embroidery.

And I just bought a new case of that ArmorAll...

Since I wear glasses, polarizers are not an option - they don't come that way. Back in my dim past, I used to use clip-ons and perhaps I can find some, but they are so darned ugly and nerdy - hey - its bad enough I wear glasses!

I have found dash covers at Ecklers or MidAmerica. Anyone have a specific recommendation? 87Callaway?

I drove for about four hours today, starting at about 8AM and heading south - the glare was pretty bad - I need to do something. By the way, it was low 80's and sunny here in NC and a terrific drive otherwise.

    Thanks, Bob

You can always just turn in a different direction and take the scenic route for a few hours. Gotta love driving the Vette!!! but polarized glasses work the best. $100 but well worth the cost and good for all outdoor activities.

Default Bought a Dash Cover, But...

... I am going to return it. First of all they sent me the wrong color. I didn't want full black (although the dash is black) so I ordered Charcoal. What came was a light gray.

But my wife and I were quite unhappy with it. It looks like a limp rug sitting there. I think I expected something firmer - this was such soft carpet that a LOT of the included velcro would be required to make it lie flat and good. I didn't want to put sticky-tape velcro on the dash anyhow, but figgered I could handle a few strips. This would require lots and lots of pieces.

    So, back it goes.

I bought a dash pad and decided not to use the sticky tape after leaving the pad in the sun for some time to heat it up. All the shipping creases left after it was heated. So instead of using the sticky tape I just installed the pad. The first time I beat the gas from the light the pad wound up in our laps...the pad has been returned.
