    Default 'New' weatherstripping...

Mine was ugly, and didn't leak. So after looking all over, I found the 4" electrical tape...

They have this stuff up to 49" wide (white), and 6" (red). GS striping scheme, anyone???

American ingenuity. I like that. Hope it seals out the rain however.

Speaking of new weather stripping, I'm looking to buy a complete set for an 84 coupe. I'm sure there are variations in fit and quality between the kits from various suppliers. Would those of you that have done this recommend or warn against any particular kits?
All fast cars are fun but, an old Vette is a work of art.

WOW! That looks great! Is that just regular electric tape? Does it still keep the rain out! Nice work!

    Thanks!

Yeah - plain 4" PVC electrical tape (see the link). It didn't leak before, and I got it on without wrinkles, so I can't see how it's gonna' make it leak now, when it didn't before.

<<so I can't see how it's gonna' make it leak now, when it didn't before>>

Because rubber to glass is a great seal and vinyl to glass is not so good. Also when the window glass gets hot it will turn the tape adhesive backing into a goo and it is sure to begin lifting in short order. That said I still wish you luck with this project, no matter what physics says should happen, or not happen.

I thought about doing something similar myself using inner tube strips glued directly to the existing gasket but decided on Wilcox weatherstripping instead. It is very reasonably priced. If you go that route Wilcox has very good, high-quality rubber and it fits like a glove; I mean PERFECT fit. I just installed the B-pillar and roof stripping and it was one of the quickest and most successful aftermarket project I've done. Roof panel is a little tougher to get on now but I only take the top off for shows anyway.

I HAD A PROFESSIONAL INSTALL MY WEATHER STRIPING AND LET ME TELL YOU I COULD HAVE DONE A BETTER JOB! IF YOU ARE PATIENT AND SOME WHAT HANDY IT'S NOT THAT HARD. I REDID MOST OF IT MYSELF(AFTER THE "PROFESSIONAL" JOB). GOT STRIPING FROM CA & ECKLERS NOT THE BEST. BUT, YOU WILL HAVE TO TWEEK HERE & THERE MAKING SURE IT DOES NOT LEAK...DOORS CLOSING PROPERLY, WINDOW SHUT ALL WAY ETC..I HAVE TO OPEN THE DOORS AND BRING WINDOWS UP ALL THE WAY THEN CLOSE DOOR FOR TIGHT SEAL, THINGS LIKE THAT. I SPENT A LOT OF TIME WITH THE HOSE CHECKING FOR LEAKS. TOOK THE WHOLE WEEKEND BUT I GOT IT. I DON'T HAVE AN INDOOR STORAGE FOR MY VETTE BUT I KEEP IT COVERED AT ALL TIMES!! I AM THE THIRD OWNER ON THIS VETTE AND TREAT IT LIKE I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW. GOOD LUCK!

    Paulie B-

Thanks for the post. Sorry to hear you had so much pain with this project. You would not have had to undergo that with Wilcox weatherstripping. It is reasonably-priced too (read: inexpensive).

how long since you fitted the wilcox stripping? I am just wondering if it is up to the task of keeping out IRISH rain ! ? I only drove my vette (93 C4) here for 5 months and water ruined both the air pump and opti spark.. that said, it rained for probably 4 of those months and i drove it every day.
