Has anyone installed a 9 inch Ford rear in place of the stock IRS in a C3? If so,how difficult was it and how much did it cost?

    BJS1977 ~ ~Welcome to the CorvetteActionCenter~ ~

I don't think in all my years being involved in Corvettes I have every heard anyone ask about using a FORD rear end on an independent suspension C3. I've seen some of the C2's modified to run the Ford rear ends, and even a Mopar.

I will follow this thread to see what comes of it Interesting :

BJS1977 take a few minutes and check out the homepage or the menu items at the top of the page. Lot's of useful information to be found. Also drop by the Saloon and have a couple cold

    Default FFFFooooorrrrrdddd what?????/

BJS1977, We have a 66 Corvette in the shop with a 12 bolt in it. It was done the same as it would have been for a ffffoooorrrrddddd(Durn, I have trouble spelling that word)9 inch. I will try to get you some pictures of it when I can(a friend borrowed my digital camera). I really like how this one was done, all the bumber brackets are there and functional, the fuel tank "could" be where it belongs, etc........I will post url's to the photos when I get them........Steve Sorry, I meant to add that since the c-2 chasis is basiccally the same as the C-3 this set-up will work wit a c-2 or a c-3.......

    Default my 9 inch everybody

Right now i have a 383 with 500+ ft-lbs and plan for some nitrous and slicks. The IRS will NOT last long and from what i know a 9 inch is stronger than a 12 bolt. Believe me i am not a F**d fan.

    Default Rear end pics

BJS1977, Oh, I am not saying that the 12 bolt is better then the FFFFFFFoooorrrrdddd 9in. Even I wouldn't say that......But here are some Pictures of the 12 bolt mounting. The pic arn't that great. I can get better ones latter when we get it on the rack. The mounting itself should be about the same. This is a "done at home" application(not by me) But this is a 10sec car that pulls both front wells off the ground about 1 1/2 feet. I hope this helps........Steve http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?...312&p=39790203 http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?...312&p=39790214 http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?...312&p=39790205 http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?...312&p=39790208 http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?...312&p=39790212

    Default More info

I need to add to my last post. I know that you asked about a C-3. As far as the frame, especially the part that you will be concerned with, is basically the same. The important part about this application, is the abbility to still use the bumper mounts and #4 body mount. While with a 77 the bumper mounts are not that important, the #4 body mounts are. You could just get a 4 link , or similar system, from JEGS or Summit, but there is no body mount on these systems. You would need to "manufacture" mounts............Steve
