Yesterday's LA Times had nearly a full page devoted to the C6. Unlike most newspaper articles about cars, almost all of the information was actually correct, with very little misleading. Although statements like, "The C6 will be offered with a removable top," can be misleading IMO - so was the C3, C4 & C5!

The article included a quote from GM's Mr. Baldick, "The coupe comes out late this summer and, when we're confident everything is working well, the convertible will come out. That could be weeks or months later. We're not going to lock into a date because our first priority is to build the best we can."

So they're saying that there are still tweaks that GM is going to do to the C6?

Could be, but to me it sounds like they just want to get the production line right - highest quality from inside the engine out. I think it's great that they aren't rushing it to market before everything is "right on."

I think the C6 will be a great car. I would buy one and probably will end up doing so after I will teast drive one.

this would be my assumption too.

to my eyes at least it would be a help as the hood lines have been anything but acceptable to me for recent deliveries.

as it appears they have changed shipping a month (dec?) or so back now strapping cars down over the tires from front to back instead of using shipping slots.
had delivery truck here yesterday and every one on it (it was full except for 1 space) had rocker rail damage right behind passenger front wheel well only visible from underneath. all in same pattern which stinks. as they were 2 holes broken through the size of a pencil and a long rub in between.
which i had driver sign off on but will be a real problem for many.

there is no need to rush but even 7 years later on this run we still have problems not to mention a $50k car needs to be covered especially this time of year up in the northeast. our audi's are covered as are our boxster's.

Just what are you saying?? :confusedit wasn't delivery damage in the hoods being lined up unacceptable. twice as wide on one side as other and corners by cowl area way off. i have seen way too many C5's come in that way and thats shipped from the factory with it like that. that to me would be production line issues that should be addressed and fixed.

as for delivery damage .ie rocker panels...well it sure didn't happen coming off the truck i saw ours come off.
i see a change from shipping slot usage for a reason and also from my point of view there is no reason we can't get covered deliveries as the competition does. so what i was alluding to was the product needs to reach its market it same way it left factory (or its a quality issue to me) and since factory in this case sets shipping procedures then its also something they need to get corrected. so let them take their time and work as many issues as can be done.

Yep, let them take their time...so it's done right. I'd hate to see mine or anyones Vette show up damaged due to shipping.

I've seen new cars show up with damaged right side rims before. Probably some clumsy kid who parked it too close to a curb before loading onto the truck. :mad

Man, when I order mine, if is looks anything less than perfect at delivery, I think I'll have a meltdown. :r I've been waiting for 4 years to buy a Vette.

HI there,
It is the job of the PDI check by the service technician.
Lets just hope that they know what and how every single system works, and that they are tested.
Corvette engineering does NOT supervise every single car loaded onto the truck, it just doesnt work that way. Quality control checks cars for damage before they are loaded and leave the plant. Driver and QC sign off on it.
When the cars are unloaded, they need to be checked in, and this is where 'transit damage' is noted to GM via a report. Both the driver and the person who checks them in has to sign and date it. All reports have codes for damage area and type of damage.
I still believe that if you expect everything to be perfect, you are not being totally realistic. This is still a mass produced motor vehicle, and in that, there will be something that occurs. The hope here is that the service and sales professionals at each dealership will remember that, and do everything that they can to make sure of it BEFORE the car reaches the customer.
Noone, and nothing is perfect in todays world, and this should be understood.
It is our job to make sure that it is close to perfect as possible.

couldn't have put it any better.

nothings perfect and after seeing 6 of my own ss's and the variance of 10plus years here one must have realistic expectations.

not much that can't be fixed but that said simple problems must be worked out ahead of time and thats what i was alluding to with regards to "getting things right" before sending them on there way. hence bowling greens involvement in the shipping methods used which on both caddy and vette seem to be a bit deeper than gm's everyday operation.

that said there are somethings that can be avoided.

being operations manager at my store unfortunetly i have become all too familiar with our coding practices :(

as far as a different direction...
wasn't looking to go in a different direction here at all, my 2 cents was related to getting things as close to right from the factory with things they DO have control over before putting things out to market with chevys flagship in year which will show quite a few new releases.
