New Spy Photos of 2018 Corvette ZR1 Hint at Active Aerodynamics

Along with the signs of a giant rear spoiler, it also appears that additional cooling vents are present near the front-end and a slightly higher hood bulge is hidden under all of that camouflage.

Well known automotive spy photographer, Chris Doane comes through again for Car and Driver magazine with some interesting spy photos of the 2018 Corvette ZR1.

These recent sky-view photos were obtained at GM’s Milford Michigan Proving Grounds and shows some pretty high rear spoiler mounting points over the rear bumper as well as what could be either the rear spoiler, or additional aerodynamic side skirts wrapped in bubble warp and protruding out of the rear hatch area into the passenger seat.

According to Car and Driver, the Corvette development team is in the process of choosing between hydraulic and pneumatic actuators for an adjustable rear wing intended for production.  However, they’re not certain if active aerodynamics are being tested for the upcoming ZR1 or the mysterious mid-engine Corvette that GM could be testing right now.

Along with the signs of a giant rear spoiler, it also appears that additional cooling vents are present near the front-end and a slightly higher hood bulge is hidden under all of that camouflage.  This could be indicative of twin turbo chargers with intercoolers mounted at the front.

What’s also interesting to note is that this prototype is wearing red brake calipers unlike the blue calipers seen in the first set of spy photos a week ago and the cross bar and doors remain unpainted continuing to hint that these parts could be carbon fiber.

Regardless of all the assumption from these pics, something wicked this way comes!
