2020 Corvette Order Deposits – States With Restrictions

There seems to be some confusion among customers regarding putting down deposits to place an order for a 2020 Corvette and what they’re hearing from some Chevrolet dealerships.

Some customers have reported the Chevy dealerships in some states are telling customers that they received a request from General Motors telling all Chevrolet dealerships to stop accepting deposits on 2020 Corvette orders. That is not true, and GM has issued no such notice to dealers.

What those dealerships are not telling customers is that by law, they cannot accept deposits on orders. Those dealerships reside in states that either have Blue Law Restrictions, or other such State Restrictions. Below is a listing of those states:

Blue Law State Restrictions (Cannot Accept Deposits on Sundays):

  • Colorado
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Iowa
  • Louisiana
  • Maine
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • Missouri
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • North Dakota
  • Oklahoma
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rhode Island
  • South Carolina
  • Texas
  • Utah
  • Wisconsin

Deposits Prohibited by State Law:

  • California
  • Connecticut
  • Delaware
  • Florida
  • Hawaii
  • Montana
  • Nebraska
  • New Jersey
  • Ohio
  • Tennessee***
  • Utah
  • Washington***
  • Wisconsin

In the states of Tennessee and Washington, deposits can be accepted IF a trust or escrow account is set up specifically by the dealership to collect and refund deposits. Chevy dealerships that reside in a state where deposits are not allowed can utilize the Chevrolet Reserve Now system without a deposit.

Last week, we reported a timeline as to when pricing will be released, how orders can be placed and the start of 2020 Corvette production.

If you would feel better being able to leave a deposit on an order, you may want to contact one of the Chevy dealerships that do not reside in a state where deposits are restricted by law. You could always do a Courtesy Delivery – where the ordering dealership has your Corvette delivered from the factory to a Chevy dealership near you, or spend the extra money and order the National Corvette Museum Delivery option (RPO R8C). The NCM Delivery is an incredible experience and if you’ve never been to the NCM, you’re in for a treat!
