Supersession Statement

This PI was superseded to update Repair information and Model Years. Please discard PIP5234B.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern

The dealer may encounter a concern where SI diagnostics indicates a fuel injector may need to be removed for a repair or replaced.

This could be due to a fuel odor and/or extended cranking condition.

Recommendation/Instructions
  1. Install Dye (p/n 88861206) into the fuel system via the filler neck
  2. Start Engine and let idle for 15 minutes
  3. Remove intake manifold
  4. Inspect for any leaks. 

    Note: **** Tightening the nuts is not an approved procedure *****

  5. After installing the seals and new pipes, start the engine let it idle for 5 min and confirm no leak is evident. Performing a post-install leak check has proven to be beneficial so customers do not return with another leak.
  6.   If required, replace the engine insulator if absorbed with fuel or emits a fuel odor.

If you cannot conclude if the leak is coming from one of the fuel feed pipes, start the engine and let idle for 5 minutes looking for source of leak. Refer to SI for further diagnostics.

If this concern is encountered use the O-ring seal listed below.

If an injector is being replaced be sure all the injectors are installed with new seals. (That includes the new injector)

The following Fuel injector PN’s require a new O ring before installation.

Important: It is required to replace the engine fuel feed intermediate pipes during any service repairs that required one or more of the pipes to be loosened or removed.

Important: If any damage occurred due to leaking fuel, be sure to replace as necessary. (i.e. Fuel Pump Insulator)

LV1-LV3-L83-L86-LT1 Seal Kit = 12668553 should be used for the following injector kits:

LV1-LV3-L83 Service Injector: 

12656932 (Nominal Flow)  

LT1/L86 Service Injectors:

12656931 – Nominal Flow

12660002 – Low Flow

12660003 – High Flow

LT4 Seal Kit = 12668554 should be used for the following injector kits:

LT4 Service Injectors:

12661029 – Nominal Flow

12661030 – Low Flow

12661031 – High Flow

Warranty Information

The correction for this concern may be one of several repairs described above.  For vehicles repaired under warranty, please use the appropriate warranty labor operation based on the actual cause and repair

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
