Subject: Heat Damage to Engine Wiring Harness at Starter Solenoid
Model and Year: 1968 Corvette with 396 or 427 Cubic Inch Engine
Source: Chevrolet Dealer Service Technical Bulletin
Bulletin No: 68-T-66
Date: October 30, 1968
TO: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS
Damage to the starter solenoid and engine wiring harness due to excessive manifold heat has been experienced on 1968 Corvettes with either the 396 or 427 cubic inch engine. This condition has been corrected in production effective March 28, 1968, with the installation of a solenoid heat shield and a higher heat resistant solenoid end cap.
If heat damage to the engine wiring harness and/or solenoid is encountered in the field on early 1968 Corvette models with the 396 or 427 cubic inch engine, the solenoid heat shield and the revised solenoid end cap should be installed as illustrated in figure 1.
