A few cases of radio interference caused by tire static have been reported on 1959 cars.  The noise in the radio speaker is most noticeable on dry, paved highways and is not prominent on humid days.  The static is caused by a build up of static electricity between the tire and pavement.  The noise is created by the discharge of this static to the pavement.

When this noise exists in a vehicle, it can be corrected by injecting a package of tire static powder into each tire including the spare.  Tire static powders and injectors are available from electronic parts distributors.
