Pros: Must have for Corvette enthusiasts.
Cons: None

Since 1978, "The Black Book" has been the authority on Corvette facts, data and trivia.

It's is divided into four sections:

1) an introduction on how to use the book.
2) a brief chronology of all model years from 53-06.
3) detailed, two-page discussions of each model year.
4) photos and specs on each model year.

Since I began working for Corvette magazines back in 1983, the Corvette Black Book has been on my reference book shelf. It has been the source for production numbers for almost all of the magazine articles I have done in the last 24 years. I've often referred to it while writing the posts I've made to threads on this web site and the emails I've posted to lists like VetteNet and ZR1 Net.

One thing I like to do when the new edition of the Corvette Black Book comes out is look at the previous year's two pages. Usually, the new Black Book is the first time I get to look at the complete stats for the full model year of production. For example: want to know the rarest option shipped on North American cars in model year 2006? Black Book says RPO Q44, Competition Gray Aluminum Wheels for Z06es with 279 cars having them. How about the rarest color of '06? It's a Z06 painted Daytona Sunset Orange—there were only 282 of them.

It's amazing the trivia you can find in the Black Book. For instance, for '02, the front stabilizer bar links were changed from rolled steel to aluminum--ok I knew that, but what I didn't know was that, while the change was designed for the Z06 and cars with Z51, it was used on all '02s in the interest of keeping things simple. Obviously, Mike Antonick, by virtue of publishing this book for the last nearly 30 years, has access to facts even those of us who claim to be "Corvette insiders" don't always know about.

This book is an institution in the Corvette hobby and, in addition to yearly updates, its author periodically "overhauls" his product. In 1992, the book was rewritten, cover-to-cover and its page size was increased. In '02, its size was increased again. In '03 page-count increased from 144 to 160. This year, not only was information added for the most recent, past model year, but the 2007 edition of the Corvette Black Book has updated information for '62, '68, '85, '91 and '05. In all, 20 pages of content were changed.

Yep, the Corvette Black Book is a good read and, as it has been for 29 years, a mainstay of my reference materials.

You can buy it direct from Michael Bruce Associates, Box 396, Powell OH 43065. The cost is 16.95 plus 3.00 shipping/handling.
