Positive aspects of the product (pros): In general, I give this book high marks for explaining the current state-of-the-art in building high-performance Big-Blocks for Corvettes.
Cons: This book suffers a little in the proofreading department.

If you’re looking for a good book on basic Big-Block performance modifications, Ed Staffel’s, Chevy Rat Motors is a pretty decent source of information.

It covers all the basics and some of the advanced techniques in rebuilding most Big-Block Chevrolet engines into street high performance or drag racing engines. It covers all Big-Blocks from 1965-1996 which leaves out only the very latest light truck, Vortec 8100 engine, which is of little interest to Corvetters, anyway.

Staffel, the owner of a New Mexico engine rebuilding business and a hard core, bracket drag racer takes the reader though the whole gambit of Big-Block hot rodding from selecting bare blocks to tuning the engine for best performance once you’ve got it finished.

While this book suffers a little in the proofreading department, the term “RPMs” is used chronically but the correct abbreviation is “RPM” for “revolutions per minute” not, “revolutions per minutes” and there is the consistent misuse of the word “motor” when the proper term is engine, but that’s mostly small stuff. In general, I give this book high marks for explaining the current state-of-the-art in building high-performance Big-Blocks for Corvettes.
