The service procedure for replacing the expansion valve on the 1966 Corvette is outlined below. This procedure is more detailed and supercedes the one listed on page 1A-57 of the 1966 Chassis Service Manual.

  1. Purge system of refrigerent.
  2. Drain cooling system and remove radiator supply tank.
  3. Disconnect heater hoses from heater core.
  4. Disconnect power element bulb.
  5. Remove expansion valve hold down strap.
  6. Remove equalizer line from suction throttling valve.
  7. Disconnect expansion valve inlet and outlet connections and remove valve.
  8. Install new thermostatic expansion valve by reversing removal procedure.
  9. Evacuate and charge system.
