Default Would You consider a V6-Powered Corvette?

Would you consider a higher-revving, lower priced and possibly more fuel efficient V-6 powered Chevrolet Corvette?

Or does such a car go against the traditional Corvette philosophy of an affordable V-8 powered American sports car that rivals the performance standards of many European offerings?

My first instinct is to vote "no". Though if it comes down to a V-6 Corvette or no Corvette, then I'm all for a V-6 (twin turbo?) Corvette.

I just read a story about today F*rd planning on putting a 3.5L twin turbo motor in their Lincoln MKS instead of a V-8, like the rest of the cars in the class have.

I think chevy should have used that cyclone/typhoon engine in the vette. I think that would have been a cool engine in one.

No for the V6.. I like the V8's rumble thank you..

I have plenty of abuse for my choice of car and plenty choices to pick from "the European Offerings" (And Asian Offerings too, btw), but i am happy with the old V8. If i had the money i'd get a C6 Z06, i would buy that too, because of the V8 and all the rest of it.

I bought my car because of the looks and because of the low rpm off we go with a grunt, no high revving wheeeeeee engine for me..

Seriously, with the relative fear that has hit buyers, it'll be a miracle that we'll have V8s at all in the future. Climate change cult fears, oil speculation, and absurd gas prices have all contributed to 6 month waiting lists for the Prius and other hybrids. People are lemmings when it comes to fads and fear.

Personally, I'd rather put a bucket over my head and run into a wall than to trade one of my Escapes for hybrid out of gas price fear. The math doesn't add up.

Many folks don't see the current situation like I do. They've bought into the media hype- sold the SUV they own out right- and absorbed a payment on a hybrid with a "market adjustment" of almost 5k over sticker.

    That makes no sense.

Yes I would. The pushrod engine is going to be extinct soon.
If Chevy could make a 450 hp V6 then why not ?

I like the V8 rumble, but a Ferrari Dino makes an awfully sweet sound as well.

I think that we'll have to consider a V6 in the future if the Corvette lives!

As long as GM can outrun the multi cammed/valved exotics at a fraction of the cost while exceeding CAFE standards the pushrod V8 will survive and thrive. I would not be in favor of the V6 replacing the V8 in the same car but if they were to offer a second Corvette model, lighter weight by a bunch, with a mid engine supercharged V6 of at least 450 hp at a much lower price then sign me up. Think Ferrari Dino. It ran 5.3 sec 0-60 and 150 mph top end back then at a bargain price compared to the front engine V12s and it wasn't even supercharged.

A much lighter Vette with a direct-injected, supercharged V6 might interest me.

It'd need to weigh 2500-2800 lbs and have 325-350 horsepower.

I have a 76, I just want to drive it. I don't care what kind of engine is in it. Right now my 6 cylinder Acura 3.5 RL has more horse power and get up and go then the Vette. Give me a 6 cylinder that will give me 30 mpg. and I won't care. Its under the hood and out of sight and the car still looks great.

while Id personally rather have a v12 or a v8 the number of cylinders is not as important as the hp/tq numbers the engine produced, a healthy turbo v6 or even an in-line 6 would be fine if the hp/tq curve was impressive
I wish they offered the all aluminum big blocks in the EFI 502 and 540,572 sizes personally

I don't understand why you would be against a V-6 in a corvette. Sure the nice V-8 rumble is cool but whats the point when a V-6 is out in front and not listening to your car roar past it.

Roll back the clock to the Grand National days and lets compare equal bodies the Monte SS and the G/N comparable weight but technology was the winner. Granted that dinosaur can't compete today in stock form. I know my 97 3.8 camaro will put the hurt on my 82 vette.
