Default The little red truck or...

    my Corvette - No Contest!!

Since buying my first Corvette, a 1994 TR 'vert in 2001, my truck has mostly sat collecting leaves and dust. I mean, come on... who wants to drive a '94 Nissan 4 banger when that Corvette is sitting in the front yard???

And so it sat, becoming less likely to crank or run worth a flip because it just wasn't being driven enough. Then in March of last year, it wouldn't even turn over when I tried to move it for the tree service crew that I'd hired to clean up some of my post Katrina mess. We jump started it to place it out of harm's way, then once more to move it back to the spot that was beginning to look more and more like a final resting place. I told myself then I had to get it running before it gave up the ghost completely but of course since I didn't have any pressing need for it, it was relegated to the back burner again.

Fast forward to this summer. I decided one day that it was ridiculous and shameful to let it sit any longer... the time had come to fix it and drive or sell it. I'd had plenty of offers: my neighbor Chuck, my pool man, the roofers... it seemed everyone thought it worth saving but me. So I called Kevin and told him I was sending it to him. He assigned the project to Vern because he was going on vacation and I called for a towtruck.

I fully expected to take a hit on it, so you can imagine my surprise when Vern called a couple of days later and told me what great shape it was in! They changed the oil and filter, replaced all the fluids, belts, plugs and wires. They checked the brakes and put some snazzy new white letter Uniroyals on it. They even detailed the exterior and engine bay and shampooed the carpet - twice. All in all, the bill for everything was under $700.

So now I'm driving it at least one day a week and we're getting reaquainted nicely, though I'm having to get used to a little less "uuumphhh" when I drive.

Wonder if you can put a turbo charger on a 4 cylinder?

    Jane Ann

I would love to have that little truck.. Why don't you drive it out to Boise? I would give you $700 for it.

Now that it's running, it'd cost you more than that.

    Jane Ann,

It's always nice to have a truck setting around. You never know when you might need to haul something. And if you were to sell it, you would need to haul something the very next week. It always works that way.

As much as I love my Hummer, each time I have to borrow a trailer or truck to haul something, I miss my pickup. Hang onto it, Jane Ann!!

    Mac! Shhhhh!

I was close to a deal here. She would drive the truck out, I would give her $700, and then she would use part of the $700 to fly home. Great deal, don't you think?

I'm not letting it go for the exact reasons you all mentioned here: I need a truck - not often but I do need it once in awhile. Also, I can't buy one in half as good condition for what I could sell it for.

It's been a good one since I bought it new in '94. And besides... it's RED! No, it's staying. Sorry Darth.

Bud - I LOVE the bumper stickers.
Mac - let me know if you need to borrow it.
Steve - not Dragon tested yet... but it does have its own set of Dragon stick-ons.
Craig - I may have to paint some flames on it, though the original graphics are still in great shape.
    Hecox - my thoughts exactly.
Shooter - mine could fit in the bed of yours, but I prefer my gas mileage.
