Mitsubishi Motors Corporation will showcase a diesel-powered sports coupe concept at the North American International Auto Show in January that hints at what the next generation Eclipse will look like, as well as the type of advance equipment the Japanese automaker plans to feature on forthcoming models.

The Eclipse sports coupe has been a cornerstone of Mitsubishi's U.S. lineup since 1989 and helps to draw younger, often first-time buyers to the brand.

The Concept-RA, designed in Japan with a more aggressive profile than recent concepts from the automaker, is powered by a new 2.2-liter, 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine that harks back to the Eclipse's roots.
