Full Throttle With the Blue Angels

One of the folks in my local Corvette Club sent this link around to us, and it's too cool not to share.

This is reporter with the Atlanta Journal/Constitution who got the chance to ride with one of the Blue Angels in his FA-18. There are five scenes documenting his flight. In scene 2, you get to watch him pass-out three times as a result of the G-forces he's experiencing.

I saw a documentery on Discovery about a year in the life of the Blue Angels that was pretty cool! They are fun to watch!

Always like to see that stuff. I or one of my buddies built the Horizonal Stabilators and the other control surfaces for that aircraft here in St. Louis. When someone screws something up the repair usually involves adding bigger/extra fasteners and/or doublers to an assembly. The joke on the floor is "Thats a BLue Angel" model.

Man that clip was awesome. I would have blown lunch a couple of times; hell I don't do well on some of the motion type Disney rides, although I survived the Space Mountain coaster OK because it goes by so fast and it might be like that with the plane ride's turns and rolls. Closest I came to sweating out a uniform was flying in a C-12 through a thunderstorm on the way to Ft.Campbell to study the aftermath of the Gander crash. We literally bounced in a zig-zag down the runway as we landed after lurching every which way while flying at like 5,000 feet to stay under the bad stuff. Yeah, right. I ran from the plane to the John, and my BDUs were soaked through with sweat. The kicker was that they wouldn't come back and get us in the afternoon because of the bad weather! We took a 12 passenger van back to Knox and not one complaint from anyone. My comment to anyone who would listen is that the first thing you learn is "Don't fly in bad weather." We were lucky to survive that day. The 2nd rule is avoid planes that seat only 8 people or less. 3rd rule--it better have at least 2 engines.
