Default Reasons Why We Sell Our Vettes

I've had two friends sell their Vettes recently. In both cases life took over and they had no choice but to part with their pride and joy. It made me wonder what reasons have forced others sell their prized posessions, Vettes or otherwise.

I sold my 71 vert back in early 2003 to help put my wife through school. It was my idea, not hers, because I knew it would make life a lot easier if we had that cash. When I offered it up she was against it but demanded that we replace it after she graduated. A little over two years later we got the Pewter 98 that I drove to work today. I miss my shark but I sure do dig the C5.....a lot.

So have you ever unloaded one, and why did you?

I owned a '97 A4. I had it about 3 years. I sold it to upgrade to my Z06. I don't see me selling this one for quite a while. Retirement is coming, so I need to sock a few dollars away yet. I could sell the Z if I had to, but I would not be happy about it.

I traded a '66 Mustang fstbk for a '63 Corvette cpe when I was a senior in high school. I traded the '63 for a new '69 GTO. The trade was made because during hard acceleration the Vette would pull to the left and I thought there was something wrong with it. At this young age I had no mechanical knowledge of the Vette and the buying of the GTO was an easy fix. All of these cars were 4 spds.

I've owned so many that I have multiple answers
    • Fell in Love with another Corvette
    • Finished repair / restoration ($$)
    • Traded for a New One (several times last time in 1993)
    • Sold it because it was a LEMON (93)
    • Got Bored with it
    • 2 Fools met ($$$$$)

Rare is somewhere between the first one and the last one (except for the LEMON )

Each time my wife and I have sold a Corvette we replaced it with a Corvette.

Sometimes, the "bound to's" get in the way of the "can't help it's" where a new/different Vette is concerned.

Funny you should say that. I actually had a vendor at Carlisle last month tell me that they haven't built a real Corvette since 79.Sometimes people make ya wonder what's in the water they're drinking.

I sold the Z06 to finance a down payment on some retirement land.
I sold the 99 FRC for several reasons: It helped wipe out my debt, and Phil's too, and it just never gave me the joy that the Z06 did.

There will be another, but not for a while.

I sold the 98 because I was able to get more than it was worth, and I wanted a newer C5 with less miles on it.

Like many, I had one when I was single (33 years ago), when I got married and started our family, it wasn't very practical. I was working in the oil fields and that was taking it's toll on the 64. So I sold it, but as the new owner drove away I told my wife that "someday I'll have another Corvette". After raising my family and getting each of the three girls married I bought my 94. I'm a bit older now, but the Corvette still lights the fire and when I'm driving it I feel like I'm 19 again.

I struggle with this as I am selling mine now.

    - I have two children and I like taking them with me in the muscle car.
    - Old cars need work, and right now I think I want to spend my time on other things.
    - The 75 is too heavy for racing IMO. I bought it to race, and while its been fun restoring, its time to move on.

Pretty sure I'll get another one down the road a bit.

I wrecked and totaled my first one, a 1966 Conv. I ordered a 1971 LT1 Coupe and kept it until marriage and a daughter forced me to part with it. I never lost that Corvette feeling and recently acquired a 2004 Coupe. My daughter says that car is to be her inheritance, but I hope to put many miles on it before she gets it.
