Default Old Issues of Corvette News

Does anyone know anything about an old magazine called "Corvette News"? My son-in-law found them while shopping for antiques. They are relatively thin at about 30 pages each. I have the Feb/Mar 71 and the Dec/Jan 71 issues plus a Corvette News supplement called "The Corvette Story" which was presented to the Society of Automotive Engineers at the 1961 summer meeting. This issue shows a lot of the detail building of a 61 Vette. In the back of the issues it lists a Corvette Club Directory. I'm wondering if maybe this is an early magazine put out by the National Council of Corvette Clubs. I guess I'll check with them also.

What is interesting is in the Dec/Jan 71 issue it has a picture of three kids who helped with hospitality at the Elkhard Lake race. One of them is Tony Shalhoub, with an afro. I believe this is the same guy who was in the TV shows "Wings" and "Monk". He was still in high school when the picture was taken.

Finally I got my wish for Christmas and have a new red Z06! The only problem is it is a wireless mouse . It's pretty neat but I'm still hoping Santa brings me a real one someday.

    Regards,

    Ron

Ron,if I remember correctly, Corvette News, was Chevrolets publication back then. I have a couple from back in that era.

I would like to see a copy of that picture with Tony Shalhoub in it. Can you put a copy in here? I liked the actor in Wings and Monk!

I recieved several years of Corvette News from GM years ago because I owned Corvettes. It was a publication by GM. I don't know where they are now. Maybe in our storage area (at least some of them).

For Rocketblock, I am including a picture of Tony from the magazine. Interesting article on how he was included in the magazine.

After getting around to finally reading the magazines, I did see where they were put out by GM. In the back of the magazines it lists both Western States Corvette Clubs and National Council Corvette Clubs. In 1971 it says there were 288 clubs.

In both issues there is an article about towing a trailer, something that you rarely see now. And in 1971 they did a survey from both national clubs and had some interesting statistics. The median age of all Corvette owners was 29, contrast that with something I'm guessing is well south of that today (I'm 61). And 98% of those responding said they only want a 4-speed car, no automatics! It was also interesting that the median income was $12,246, which was probably close to what Vettes cost then.

Thanks Ron. My wife tells me we have a whole bundle of those mags. They were pretty good at the time.

I bought a new Corvette in 1965 and GM sent me Corvette News magazine for about 2 or 3 years. I could have recieved a 65 corvette promo model also but told the salesman I wasn't interested.

Corvette News was published by GM and the subscription (free) came with the purchase of every new Corvette. Since I was in college (1958-64) and had a 1956 Corvette (red, of course), I was able to get a free subscription even though I did not buy a new Corvette. The CNs were published every two months and I got them until GM ceased publication. I even have pictures hanging in my garage made by GM from select covers. The stories were great and covered just Corvettes, including Duntov, and other Corvette personalities. Even was an article on Route 66. The CNs are not rare and one can find them on e-bay. I have often thought about completing my collection of CN thru e-bay, but decided that it was really not worth it as there are many issues out there for sale. I still like reading them and I know exactly where I have them stored in the house.
Hope you enjoy reading the stories published many years ago.
