I’m not condoning what this guy did! But, Can a person be legally be arrested for a traffic infraction when it was not witnessed by a LEO? I thought that was only possible for felonies? Then what about 5th amendment rights? I think I might need some education.![]()

Can he be prosecuted on his video ? I would think the only way to prove the speed is by timing between 2 identifiable structures, of known distance but then I guess he could have edited the video to make it appear he was going faster than he actually was. Perhaps he should have taken a moment to photograph the dash !!!! Roger...![]()
I believe the charge is reckless driving and the video is all the proof they need that he did it!
Thats what I heard also JR. But is reckless driving a traffic infraction or something else? I see that some states spec a speed that then becomes reckless driving, some say 15 over the speed limit, some 30 over and others 100 MPH. I was not able to find out what the punishment was for reckless driving. The bottom line is reckless driving an arrestable offense in your state? Here locallya 20 year old NBA player was cited and released for a speed of 130 MPH.

Does that mean lots of vids few arrests? Thanks Rob for the opportunity to ask dumb questions. Still wondering is 2nd hand information is justification for an arrest for reckless driving?![]()

I wouldn't want to be the cop who brought a case to court with nothing else for evidence but a piece of video that I didn't shoot myself.

he admitted it to the leo
He appears to have admitted it to leo, or so the thread says, so a confession usually works doesnt it? If the perp gets a lawyer, they can prolly get it reduced to something else, but I dont think Ive ever heard of something like this going totally unconvicted around here.
I think that the vid of the car flying by freeway traffic might be evidence enough of reckless driving for a michigan judge,, haha. Especially since the guy admitted driving while the vid was taken, and then admitted posting it to utube.
