READ THIS BEFORE POSTING (or reading other threads here)
Please take notice that this Off Topic forum is different than The Edge.
Whereas certain 'confrontational' or 'inflammatory' behaviors are tolerated to some extent in The Edge, this Off Topic forum will not tolerate any of the ill behaviors that are typical of The Edge.
This "Off Topic forum" is for discussing non-volatile and typically non-confrontational topics. Please try to use some common sense. Discussions about war, politics, social issues, etc are more than likely "Edge" material than general discussion. Any thread that a staff member believes fits into that type of category can/will be moved to The Edge forum. If any of the CAC staff sense a topic, person, or reply is straying into areas that the staff deem unacceptable for general consumption, such as but not limited to being intentionally inflammatory or condescending to another member, any portion of the post or the entire post in general may be edited or removed by the staff without notice to the originator of said post. (Most staffers will be more than willing to explain their actions if questioned.)
Please note that the staff of the CAC doesn't (or honestly tries not to) play favorites. Whether you are a new person or you've been a member since the site was founded, we expect a certain decorum to be maintained on this site, regardless of the forum being posted in or the topic at hand. We like to believe that as adults we can self-moderate. However, if needed, we the staff will moderate for you regardless of who you are or who you think you are.
This will likely strike some of you as being heavy handed. Maybe it is. But this is not exactly a democracy as some of you may think. You are in our house and will abide by our rules. Just like when mom & dad said, "Because I said so, that's why!" If you find that you don't like the house rules, there are plenty of other houses to go play in.
Rob built the CAC as a repository for all things Corvette. The forums were created as way to bring the community together for pleasant exchanges of ideas and experiences. It was not created with the intent of giving people soap boxes from which to rant and rave about people, places, ideals, etc.
There are plenty of places on the internet that cater to people with specific ideologies or beliefs, and other sites that cater to the discussion or banter of conflicting ideologies. The CAC's forums are certainly not the latter.
So, we welcome everyone to this forum to discuss topics not pertaining to anything car related. The primary requirement is that you all maintain a sense of camaraderie and understanding towards your fellow members. Also keep in mind when using sarcasm or things like it, that it can easily be misinterpreted by the reader(s). It only takes a moment to insert a smiley/emoticon into a post to help the reader understand, "Hey, I'm just joking around. I'm not entirely serious." (Note, this doesn't absolve you of anything still deemed out of line.)
We aren't saying that there can't be disagreements within the forum, but please give consideration to the idea of "Before I hit the POST button, how will this be interpreted by the reader?" It shouldn't be too difficult for adults to disagree in a polite and non-confrontational or non-condescending manner.
