    Default ??? About Our Community

I will probably be in deep doo doo with this thread

But I figure it's better to ask for forgiveness than maybe permission with this one

I have a few question for everyone.

I have received PM’s, Emails and even Phone Calls about the way the Moderators and Administrators on our Forum do their jobs. There is really no right or wrong answer, but there are many differing view points.

Some are extremely passionate about what should and should not be allowed within our community while others would like to see an anything goes type atmosphere.

I personally stay involved and continue to support the Corvette Action Center because it is a “Class Act.” There are other Corvette Sites out there, but most do not appeal to me. Rob has been and continues to remain true to his values when it comes to the operation of the Corvette Action Center.

My question to you all.. are outlined in the poll. Please add comments if you like and let us know if the Corvette Action Center still scratches that itch when it comes to online Corvette Sites. AND I’m curious? Do you act / post the same way in all websites you visit? Do you respect particular websites more than others?

I enabled the view who polled option. Will this discourage you from voting?

    Thanks

    Bud

There have been some areas that I personally would like to see enforced a little stricter. Questionable avatars for example. I used to have my son sit down with me and browse the forums, now I can't do that. Someone else made a good point also of being able to browse at work...that is no longer an option with some of the avatars and floating around. There's simply no need for those, this not that type of site.

The Edge... I'm all for people expressing opinions, but lately the manner in which that has been happening is just out of control. Profanity and racism do not belong here either.

I am not in favor of the "anything goes" type of environment.

I can't vote. My choice isn't up there.

"The mods/admins do a great job and better than other sites that wont be mentioned here."

    X.... there, I voted!

I feel bad about avatars having to fulfill some sort of need for some people without regard to others views (there are billions of websites for that). For the most part the avatars here are good, but if one is unnecessarily lewd or inappropriate for the content of this website, please consider others and just change it. See, that was easy!

For the most part the Mods and Administrators do a good job but as with any group some will come on a little bit strong! As others have said the Avatars need more control, in other words they should be tasteful and either about cars or your screen name!

I have no complaints about mods or admins. I have been around for a while, and not much if anything has changed in regards to the integrity of this site. So I'd say they are doing great!

Bud, as many of the CACers know, I am a big fan and supporter of the CAC, the administrators and moderators. I visit other forums on occasion, but try to visit CAC each day and offer my opinions and help where I can. I side with Billy (Geek) on this part, keep the site clean and wholesome so our younger members (and older members like me who were brought up to respect others) can view the site and gain info. I am concerned about some of the Comedy Central posts that I think are demeaning to our ladies and also don't sit well with the men. If you post humor that you would not tell to your mother, it doesn't belong here. There are some truly great and funny posts, but some truly will offend. I agree that some avatars are questionable and don't belong on the CAC; use them elsewhere. With that said, I continue to support the site (I believe my supporting membership is due soon) and feel that CAC is the best out there, as are most of our members and the "management". Unfornately for me, I have not met all of the adm/mods, but those that I have met have gained my respect. I know that Rob will continue to stand by his beliefs and ideals for the site and will make it a pleasure for all to visit. I hope CAC will continue to live long and prosper, especially during my lifetime. Currently I have no problem in recommending the CAC to new corvette people I meet; I never recommend the other forums.
Bud, thanks for the poll. The doo doo is not as deep as you might think from my perspective.

I don't post much any more, but I am going to try to answer that question. From my point of view, it all depends on how inclusive you want this site to be.

I was originally drawn to the CAC because it was a friendly place full of people who knew a lot about Corvettes. I had lots of questions- and some of them were not very smart. But nobody made fun of me or criticized my lack of knowledge. It was a cooperative, helpful place. I felt like I had friends here, and we were generally tolerant of each other. Sure, there was "The Edge", but most of the political commentary was restricted to that forum. Even the content of the Edge was mostly polite. Name calling and personal attacks were addressed by the CAC staff. There were boundaries.

Now it seems like the hostile political content is pervasive throughout the site, and it can in no way be called polite. There are some staff members who are among the worst offenders in that regard. Now there is a growing tolerance for misogyny and sexism. Is this a Corvette site? A political site? A military site? It's identity seems to me to be in flux.

So back to the question at hand: How inclusive do you want this site to be? Can people from all walks of life talk about Corvettes without being offended by non-Corvette content? I certainly hope so. It is up to the staff to re-establish boundaries.

to all that have participated thus far

Would more of you vote if I removed the "Show Participants" feature. It's really not a problem, I really am more interested in your thoughts and honesty than your screen name.

Without your feedback there is very little chance anything will change!!

So, if modifying the poll will get your vote, I would be happy to change it. I ask that if you feel you should be a Moderator and vote that way, Please contact one of the staff here so we know who you are I can also make the poll a multiple choice

    Thanks
    Bud

CAC is the ONLY Corvette website I would feel comfortable having my wife look at. It is also the only Corvette website I ever recommend to my friends. For me, most folks are helpful and considerate. There have been a few on here who seem bent on upsetting folks just to stir the pot. I've found they don't last long. If you look at some of the other Corvette websites you can just get a sense of the folks on there and I don't like it. For me CAC is the most respectful. Yeah, the Edge can get a little sticky but I usually don't go there. I am all for keeping it the way it is and don't have a problem with the moderators banning someone. One of my first tipoffs is when I see a post starting with something like "Hey y'all... just got here because I got banned from (insert website)." I wouldn't even allow them to post anything after that.

Moderators and administrators, continue to do your excellent job. And thanks again to Rob for putting up with the occasional nonsense from some posters.

For the most part the CAC is a friendly site. No one gets jumped on for asking almost any question. You can get the help that you need.

The Edge can get out of control but you don't have to go there if you don't like it. And you can still get he help that you need.

I'd have to say that the mods/admin do a good job here. We already have other sites if we need to get "personal." This site is good because we can exchange ideas in a free flowing environment without having to reduce ourselves to cursing or using profane language. That's CLASS!

I said the Mod/Admin's do a fabulous job here!!!
I find it very friendly and helpful.
Outside of a recent avatar,I don't have a problem with them.
Rob and his staff do a great job of keeping it clean and respectful.
the 'edge' is there for a reason, and it should remain that way.
I am on this site more than any other corvette or any of the trucking forums that I belong to!!!
I have met some of the forum members, and have had a great time with them, when I get to see them whether at carlisile or at a cruisefest!!!!

    Yea I voted

I thought about it a lot, and figured why not, just because I am part of the Staff around here, my voice counts too

I have to agree with Bill (geekinavette) and others that mentioned the racy type photo's. And Jim (jrose7004) statement about avatars " be tasteful and either about cars or your screen name!" image that

I speak for myself here and not for any other Staff Members..
I am more black and white when it comes to managing. Oh I've been through all the touchy feeling course's but I tend to fall back on my Military Training where there isn't a whole lot of room for interpretation or the meaning of NO, or rules and policies.

A lot of the time it is the spirit in which I read the post and reference it to the topic and flavor of the discussion. For one to be sarcastic, one needs to be careful, and keep the sarcastic remarks as unspecific to individuals as possible. Otherwise feelings are hurt, ego's are crushed and then the starts flinging around in ANGER...

As Jim (DRTH VTR) kind of eluded too, some Moderators / Administrators are better at jumping into a knife fight bare handed than others. I wonder about being part of the problem?? Maybe sensitivity and feelings are hurt, but that's part of life.. As I used to tell folks in the Utility Business..."I don't care if you hate each others guts (say Dumb & Dumber), BUT if you are walking across the compound Dumb and Dumber is on fire, you better stop and pee on him or put the fire out somehow.. Now if you're walking downtown and Dumber is fire I don't care if you poor gas on him!!

So long as you two are on the clock you'll treat each other with respect and work together..."

My point is not everyone will love each other, not everyone will walk a mile in some elses shoes, as members and as Staff it would be nice if we gave some consideration of others opinions. We all owe it to each other to be honest, not BRUTALLY Honest, BUT... sometime a smack up side the head is the only thing some folks understand .

All my dad had to do was reach for his belt buckle and us kids knew we were right at the edge of accepability

I Got a bit long winded I really do want to hear what you folks think.

    Thanks

    Bud
