It is a shame that he has to worry about theft. Living in the barracks is the smart thing to do I think. It saves you a lot of money and the typical military man won't spend a lot of time in the room anyway.
The good thing here is that the vast majority of his comrades will cover his back and are trustworthy.

In the Marine Corps it is called a blanket party.
Well its faster to get a package to Ben in Iraq than it is to mail him a simple birthday card in Kansas
It takes a week for our boxes to get to Camp Liberty in baghdad and it took 3 weeks for him to get a letter to his po box at Ft.Riley
Oh well, he has $75 on a McDonalds gift card and $100 on a Mastercard gift card to have fun with.....we were starting to think it was lost but he finally got it today.
He's havin Mickey d's for dinner tonight and heading to Cabella's to find a trolling motor for his boat........he said it looks like he will get 2 weeks leave for Christmas this year so we are hopeful it happens.

Sounds good Chas and it should definitly happen. Benning pretty much shuts down over Christmas due to all the schools. Even ranger school students are kicked out and told to go home over the break so all signs look good.

Well it would seem we get to have Ben home for the Christmas Holidays.
He is driving home on the 20th of Dec. and if all goes as planned , he will report to Ft. Benning to start jump school in January.
Seems it took some time to get through all the security clearances required for his new MOS in the Airborne squad he is attaching to.
His current battalion has recieved orders to deploy to Iraq in the middle of the year, but he is unsure of his deployment date with his new attachment.
Either way he looks forward to his return...he loves his job and country

I am just one of many here but please pass along my thanks and a Merry Christmas from a Marine to a Soldier.![]()
Ben had his eyes lasered last Monday would have left for home today, but still has "sand" in his eyes. He is excited to be coming home and we can't wait for him to get here. Last Christmas he spent in Iraq and is looking forward to having it at home this year.
We got an additional 6" of snow yesterday and another 2" predicted for Sunday and again on Wednesday so it would seem he will have a white Christmas this year as well.
The whole family home for the holidays.....Life is good!![]()

That is great news. Ben is going to be home for Christmas and it will be a white Christmas.![]()
Chas,
That is great news!
Ben has made me proud, even if by proxy, for it shows the spirit of our young men and women. Countless have answered the call of duty since 9-11, and one cannot help it, but to feel the immense pride that we all feel.
Now it's time for a little R & R, and what a better place than at home with the loved ones.
Hey, I have an idea that I'll PM you about. If it works, perhaps everyone would be willing to participate.

Merry Christmas Chas and Ben.
He will be happy when the sand goes away. The new techniques in eye surgery are truly wonderful. If we had had it in '73 I would probably still be in the Corps....
...on second thought with men like Ben the military has no need of us 60 year old warriors.
Take care and stay safe,
Igeaux

Pass on our Merry Christmas wishes to a fine young man, Chas. He must have a fine father.
